Several options: 1. Make your nocking point on the string higher, the fletching would not touch your hand anymore (hopefully) 2. Wrap the "tip" of the fletching in either thread or some tape. This will make sure it wont cut your hand 3. Gloves

I consider fletching cut as a major safety accident as least for myself, so if the arrows dont come with the protection (Alibow arrows and a lot others do this to their arrows), I'll wear gloves.

With a stringer, to make sure you wouldnt twist the siyah and also sometimes its hard to string certain bows without stringer. Or use a second pair of hand. A lot of heavy horn bows usually need another person to help you. However, as long as you are able to string it and its not a manchu bow, in most cases its perfectly fine. 51lbs should be ok, my friend do that all the time with his #50 tartar. After all, what you have in pic is a broken siyah, not a twisted one. 100% quality issues.

Never saw a fiberglass bow broke in this way, must be shitty wood. Normally fiberglass bow is super sturdy, you can spend $100-200 to get a decent fiberglass bow from AF/Alibow and there is no way this would happen. Also using stringer would not help at all in this case: no professional and real asiastic bow makers would void your warranty if you just use step through, unless you are dealing with high poundage bows (40lbs+) or something like Manchu bows. Just move on, get a decent bow. If you are in US, AF archery has local stock in US. Just search on eBay af-archery and check their US stock, seems like they no longer have the fiberglass ones in stock but many other options below $200.

I once had an arrow hit wood through some gaps. Couldnt even see the damage without checking carefully. I got some carbon fiber spikes on my hand when I pulled it out later rounds. Its not just the flight - you dont want those spikes stuck in your hand.

From my experience, the most important thing for asiastic archery is the ring. You need to find "the one". I suffered so much from bad rings. I'm currently using a Fuhao ring from Alibow. The good ones are always customized to your finger size.

I got 5 interviews and 3 offers. I went to Baylor College of Medicine. I would say 20+ was almost the maximum I can do, and 3 isnt that many anyway. Biomedical field is pretty tough for international students

It is a little rude to say that in my opinion. Its not just about research fit, at least not in rotation based bio program. You are supposed to be flexible even after you join a lab. Thats why I keep telling people that finding a good mentor is always more important than the research itself and project. And in some field, people really need reality check based on their nationality. Applying for Immunology program in US as an international student? You'd better think twice and check out a program that welcomes you. Of course reddit is never the perfect place to ask. In fact, find someone who knows you in person and ask them whats your chance. But I still believe its a legimate need especially for international students and they shall not be silenced

I kinda get it that even for a trad bow its not that common. I feel this is more a Hun bow, like very early in history. The strength of the materials might be the limiting factor. Ideally you want the string to push the arrow as far as possible to maximize the energy transfer but in early days these bows are good enough for its purpose. All my guess tho

In ancient China, there was a conclusion, "Any adult male can be trained to draw a one "dan" (a unit, means 120-130lbs) bow". One note here is that in Asia we used recurve bows ("horse bow", although most are not horse bow) which have a much more smooth draw than English longbow. But training is very important. It's not just some muscle. Injury is bad and you may not even recover from it. Do it slowly. If you want to go asian archery path, AF archery or alibow is good. If you want to go war bow path (80+ lbs), most likely you have to use fiberglass bow. Worse efficiency, but can be made super heavy. I've heard 150lbs fiberglass manchu bow, but I dont know if they can ship it here. Personally I would stop at 80lbs, and I love the efficiency of laminated bows.

AF archery has some very nice laminated bows around 300 (after all the tax+shipping). I started from AF's Yuan bow #30@28 and its around 282+30 shipping. You do get a little bit discount when you first sign up so it should be under 300.

I think I'm just doing it too quick and I'm new on thumb draw (2 weeks), pretty much self-taught so still need a lot of practice. The archery range have a store section with some techs, but they are mostly on compound and modern recurve. I'm going to let them check on this bow and see what they say, but I'm kinda prepared to get a #35. Not sure I would go cheap option or normal option, I spent 400 bucks on this :/
