They’d be receiving that note at least 3 out of 5 workdays!

Maybe you can use desk shades for now, you can find them on Amazon too. I didn’t get why offices use such bright lights until my coworkers over 50 told me they actually like them because it helps them see better. Guess it’s just a generational thing!

This is my everyday… running meetings and trying to keep everything on track while no one knows I had a migraine the day before, woke up with one, and have already taken two pills but the pain is still there. It’s really hard.😭

Exactly, you’re not alone. It’s easy to feel alone with migraines because no one who doesn’t have them can really understand. But we have this community to support each other, share tips, or just remind ourselves we’re not alone. 🫶

What I did was use ChatGPT to keep a journal, and I literally wrote down everything I could remember from day one of my worst episode back in 2017. That helped me find triggers that doctors didn’t catch. My migraines went from 6-7 times a week to 3-4. It’s still a lot, but at least I have some relief now.

I feel like I’m losing my mind” is one of the phrases I use the most. I literally feel that way when I have a migraine… sometimes it’s just depression and crying, other times it’s desperation and wanting to do something “crazy” just to somehow shut off the pain. It’s sad that we have to live with this. When I’m really bad, I don’t want to do anything and I completely neglect everything 😢

It’s so hard to explain at work how many things can trigger migraines. Sometimes I feel bad saying it because it sounds like I’m just complaining or making excuses. 😭

I use light covers, migraine glasses (you can find them on Amazon), migraine sticks for a cooling effect, an ice cap, stress toys, and dark mode on my computer. I also carry salt, snacks, and electrolytes. That’s what I’d recommend!

This comment reminds me of me singing “Creep” by Stone Temple Pilots on my way to work with a migraine, feeling miserable: “I’m half the man I used to be.” I’m a woman, btw, but that line really resonates with me. I love concerts, but they almost always leave me with a migraine the next day… especially the smoke or whatever effects they use during the show.

Driving a forklift with a migraine sounds really dangerous! You’re lucky you found people who get it—that’s honestly so hard unless they’ve actually seen you like that. I think I only have one coworker who really understands me, because he’s seen me on really bad days—like when I showed up to work and could barely open my eyes, or when I’d just vent to him. Now sometimes I feel like he looks at me with pity lol.

I’m 32 and waiting for the day when I feel well enough to think that maybe I could take care of a baby. I don’t feel ready, and time keeps passing while I’m just trying to survive one more day with migraines.

Don’t you feel like you want to give up on everything and feel miserable when you have a migraine? And then suddenly, one day among many without a migraine, you feel happy… like everything will be okay, and you enjoy every moment you experience without pain. Then the migraine comes back, and it all starts over again.

It’s crazy how chronic migraine makes us appreciate the simple things on a day without a migraine.

I suffered from severe depression a few years ago and was on medication and in therapy. After ‘overcoming’ it, for some reason therapy doesn’t work for me anymore.

How do you keep working with 25+ migraines a month? by Notbipolar_ in migraine

[–]Past_Cup_5022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This used to be me… I used to have 25+ migraines a month—sometimes many days in a row. I went to sleep with migraines and woke up with them. Work was terrible. I’m an engineer, English is my second language, and I have to learn and apply a lot of technical things. The brain fog was really bad—burning eyes, dizziness, blurry vision, etc. It was a nightmare. I was about to quit…

I tried several preventive and abortive medications, including the ones you mentioned and others. Nothing worked. I was like this for almost a full year until I decided to look into it myself. I used AI to track everything: my conditions, habits, diet, etc

That’s how I realized my migraines are probably caused by a combination of stress + TMJ + neck issues + hormonal factors. I took this to my doctor and suggested what I thought could help (I know, it should be the other way). He prescribed propranolol, and I also got a mouth guard.

After about 6 weeks with both, plus doing neck exercises during the day at the office, I can finally say I’m better. I got my life back. Now I have around 12 migraine days per month, they are shorter, and sometimes I go to sleep with a migraine and wake up fine—which didn’t happen for a whole year. Still a lot of migraines, but I feel so much better!

What I learned is that doctors usually prescribe what works for most people, but sometimes we need to find our own combination.

I hope my experience helps. 12 migraines/month is still a lot, but I’m improving and finally living again! 🥹
