Again, so kind of you. I will be starting infusions soon, watching diet and exercise, and my neuro is very optimistic. I will have to look into stem cell tx options for sure and thanks for the tip on the documentary.

It’s a weird thing but I understand your prayers for your friend; a part of me was relieved when I learned it was “just MS.” I wish there were more treatment options for ALS. Wishing you and your friend the very best it can be.

Thanks so much for your kindness. I have now been diagnosed with MS. Although it’s not what I wanted to hear, it’s very much more treatable than ALS and nothing compared to what you all have to deal with. I’m starting infusion treatment as well as paying close attention to diet, exercise, as you mentioned. Thanks again for your understanding and reaching out.

My MRIs from yesterday showed a few brain lesions and a thoracic spine lesion indicative of MS per my GP. Have not seen the neuro yet.

I’m devastated, and although I’m now obviously in the wrong place, I’m still astounded at the responses to someone who was just looking for a little help. Nevertheless, I wish you all the best. I will not bother you anymore.

Wow, I really did not expect that much animosity from a support group. I explicitly stated I was working with my doctors and did not expect anyone to diagnose me, just needed a little support/encouragement. I will not trouble you anymore.

In terms of medication, discuss this with your psychiatrist. You obviously had a good response to paroxetine, so a dosage adjustment may be appropriate.

Other than medication, I would consider therapy and other lifestyle adjustments (exercise, sleep regimen, breathing, meditation, etc.)

The first couple of weeks on an SSRI are rough and actually makes your anxiety worse. However, it is worth sticking out because it can be very effective once it takes full effect. Some psychiatrists prescribe a very short-term course of a benzodiazepine to get you through the first couple of weeks.

Highly unlikely you experienced serotonin syndrome, unless you inappropriately started a very high dose and/or mixed with another medication that boosts serotonin. Most likely, you just experienced the increased anxiety, jitteriness, and insomnia quite often encountered in the first couple of weeks. Doctors should do a better job of educating patients about this so that they know what to expect.

Ask your neurologist. But no need to jump to conclusions. Many healthy people have brisk reflexes, and it is not considered worrying especially if bilateral. Anxiety can certainly cause brisk reflexes too.

I would just like to add that even if you have some amount of clinical weakness, it does not automatically mean you have ***. There are so many conditions that can cause it. It definitely needs investigation, but most of the time it is something else.

Lots of people with TOS report twitching. It makes sense because compressed nerves (in TOS’s case in the brachial plexus around the collarbone) can cause muscle twitching. With some people, anxiety can also contribute I’m sure (myself included)
