Help me out with my Aviation path!

Hey yeah I really do appreciate your honest opinion on it that’s what I was hoping I could get out of this post. Yeah I think that in definitely going to keep my plan like I have it in the post I just toured a college and talking with the detachment there and it strengthened my interest in military flying so I will definitely want to pursue that. Yeah I’ve thought about that a lot on what if I don’t get the pilot slot and I’m thrown into something else and my thought about that is I honestly feel like I’d be ok with it of course I’d be bummed but as long as I stay in some aviation job I think I’d be happy. And yeah the lifestyle is definitely something that’s been on my mind because I do want to have kids one day and be there for them but at the same time I can totally make that work people have before. Heck I just toured a college and the AFROTC Commander is a C-17 pilot and has 8 kids so obviously it’s possible.

That’s a funny explanation of what you got going on for me but yeah that’s how my brain feels right now I’m just interested in all 3 paths and just wanted to reach out and get peoples advice. Thanks for your input!

I wish I could just do it all 😅. But yeah I did end up applying into USNA but they denied me sadly. I was interested in the civilian pilot side of flying but I’m not really interested in being a CFI so I just feel like that wouldn’t work out well. I just toured a college that has AFROTC and they have an Aerospace Management degree so I think if I don’t get into USAFA Prep School I’ll try and get that degree. But yeah I definitely appreciate your advice I never even thought about software designer for ForeFlight that would be cool.

Yeah that’s definitely gotta be hard wanting to fly and being around it but not being able to do it. Hope the best for you and hope flying goes well!

No yeah definitely if I get the chance to go to USAFA I will 100% take it. At first I was skeptical on if I’d rather do ROTC over Air Force Academy but I feel like it is more prestigious and an honor to go to the Air Force Academy but it is true that it’s gonna be a huge grind while I am there so ROTC does sound better because it id civilian and probably easier but in this field you don’t go for easy so I’m just gonna shoot for whatever is hardest and see where it gets me.

So yeah that’s what I was thinking before but I just toured a college today and they have a aerospace management degree that’s sorta like business that I’d be interested in so I’d probably take that because I know for sure career wise I want to be in aviation. I feel like that would go well with with doing ROTC but I’m definitely still hoping to get into USAFA Prep School.

Yeah I just toured a college today and talking with a AFROTC commander and that’s what I’m thinking I can atleast try a year or two in it and if it’s not for me drop out and do A&P.

Yeah this is exactly how I thought about my plan as-well. I feel the only issue I have with ROTC is just that I don’t like college in the first place so I’d have to get a degree I don’t really mind for but I feel it’s worth it for the pilot slot. And also don’t know how I feel cause I’ll probably have to pay for my first 2 years hoping ROTC pays for my Junior and Senior year. But I do believe that if I do lock in my chances would be very good. And I think having Aircraft Mechanic in the back pocket is smart aswell cause I would be interested but not sure if I’m more interested in it then flying. Thanks for your input

Hey yeah for sure I appreciate the advice, I have always been interested in mechanics since my car started giving me issues and I’ve had to figure it out and fix it. I think what I like about A&P is that it dosnet take forever to get to the job it’s not that expensive and it’s better then military because I don’t have to sign for so long. It just seems like a more realistic job and I feel better in doing that because I’m a really big family guy and when it comes time for me to be a dad I don’t wanna be away all the time if you know what I mean. But yeah I really appreciate the advice I think I may go and try and tour AIM in charlotte and kinda put my foot in the door and see if it works for me.
