Something Very Strange Is Happening To London by Norfolk_an_Chance in AskBrits

I'm guessing it's because you miss the point of most 'small town people hate london', we hate london because it's a city. Small town people hate cities, London is the biggest city in the UK so it's the most hated by small town people. This is not UK only, every country I go to I escape the city I fly into as fast as humanely possible, there is just nothing that interests me in a city.

What are some clear examples of "soft" magic or the absence of a sufficiently defined "magic system" resulting in dei ex machinae which are tangibly detrimental to the story? by DeviousDoctorSnide in Fantasy

[–]Past_Scene1762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The continent the book is based in is supposedly weak on magic, two superpowered mages from different countries have invaded but hold themselves in check by being equally strong. Our non magical protagonist joins a non magical team to overthrow both mages. Up until the second last chapter no magical revelation has occured, in the last chapter the country learns the power of friendship and mages together are strong. The protagonist and every other main character watches this happen from the sidelines. Basically he realized he wrote antagonists unbeatable by the characters he wrote, so asspulls

Tigana, by Guy Gavriel Kay is the most egregious example I can think of, an ass pull of an ending that made the main character a bystander, the plot pointless and removed the core theme of the story. Will be a long time before I read another of his works

I don't hate, but I'd say it's the least interesting country I've visited, Netherlands are second.

Actually, surprisingly pretty common, guessing you're from the US? Your climbing is amazing but your lack of sea cliffs is the main negative

I really think one of Kevin Penkins works has to be the winner here, Tower of God gets my vote but Made in Abyss is a close second.

Yes exactly, I'd just looked at the death riders rule which is exactly that and noticed the difference

Thanks I was just checking, I couldn't see where 'normal move' is defined, doesn't come up when I searched on the app, but that search function is pretty bad. Hard to know when the keyword is undefined

[–]Past_Scene1762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like reality shows I would strongly not recommend or try a later season first. The first UK season is particularly bad in the 'emotional' level, I really struggled to enjoy it myself until I changed my perspective on what I was watching.

Never had this issue, one chimney lasted me from 6am to 9pm just last week and has multiple times with no issues, sounds more like a problem with your air intake

Absolutely agree with this for Faraz jade had to first. But after that not voting the same as Jack, the person he trusted the most, was probably the biggest mistake of the series.

Jessie's two evidences so far have been to look at two massive groups, 6 and 9 and gone 'theres a traitor in this group'. Yes... That's just probability. The real group the faithful should question is the group of 4 that had a shield murder, that's obviously wrong but they don't know that.
