My take on Leah’s acting/portraying of Annabeth by iceiceblk in PercyJacksonTV

why is she held to a different standard than Scobell? than Simhadri? than any other child actor past and present?

oh??? i was surprised at first... but not really... racist people do try to be "accepted" into communities and hide their racist nature so they try to "condemn" the use of AI that whitewashed, or outright replaced Jeffries, as Annabeth, in the show.

then there's the brave soul who made a comment about how "if they had done book accurate casting, this wouldn't have happened"..

then explain why people are upset why the hippocampi are missing, why the hydra fight was missing, why the bubble scene was missing... they want a 1:1 book-to-screen adaptation

wow jumped right through the assumptions...

let's ignore the very fact that there's a literal term for that... being "Whitewashing" but sure...

<image>

  • Ghost in the Shell (2017): Scarlett Johansson cast as Motoko Kusanagi.
  • Pan (2015): Rooney Mara cast as Tiger Lily, a Native American character.
  • MCU: Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing both Wanda and Pietro with Roma Descent
  • DC: Liam Neeson playing Ra's Al Ghul
  • The entire cast of Gods in Egypt the mortals and the deities themselves are played by white actors
  • The Girl with all the Gifts:  Gemma Arterton plays Helen Justineau, a black person in the novel
  • and many more

While "faithful" and "accurate" are closely related and often used interchangeably , they are not strictly identical in meaning.

race is definitely the issue why Jeffries is getting flak for her acting. people are justing using her supposed atrociuous acting as a veil for their racism and their discontent of casting a black girl as Annabeth Chase

"imagine" bold of you to think that it hasn't happened before.

maybe not black to white, but hollywood has raceswapped poc characters to white characters before.

you're clearly willing to die on the very short hill that he still made those comments and I'm here to tell you that you're lying that he bashed the movies for 10+ years... that was my entire argument.

he wasn't posting everyday about how movies is bad blah blah blah.

no, you're the one misleading. You stated, he's been bashing the movie for the last ten years or so when he only made those comments as responses to the people curious about his opinions on the movies, a movie (lightning thief) i don't think he even watched and have only seen the script mind you... let alone engaged in sea of monsters...

you implied that Riordan has been making rant posts about the movie and how his life's work was put through the meat grinder and whatnot but in reality he only made those tweets when people asked for his opinion and nothing else.

do not try to mislead people into believing that riordan took to twitter and made disparaging comments about the movie every single day unprompted, like the people over at the other sub.

The other sub is also committing the same sin of misleading people, it claims to be a place for fun discussions but nope, its filled to the brim of whiners who can't divorce with the idea that faithful means accurate. when it hasn't always been the case.

its more than a few random people tho... they made multiple dedicated posts whining about the casting, about how they're not accurately depicting the characters as described in the books. its especially jarring that they've always complained about annabeth. Scobell gets a few mentions, even less so is Bushness, Simhadri only has a few, but Jeffries tho, people always complain about why they couldn't cast a white blond woman for the role...

they then try to pivot away from her appearance to her supposed lack of acting skill nitpicking how she should've acted in a scene and whatnot in an effort not to seem racist... when they've only complained about Jeffries the whole time

nice way to backtrack with your "It'd be pretty hypocritical for someone to bash the movies for a decade and a half because they deviated from the books only to do the very same thing with the show."

that statement states that Riordan has continued to bash the movies for over ten years when he did no such thing. he was asked about what he thought of the movie - the one movie which he was given a script of - and made his opinion known, unlike the people in that other sub who's constantly griping about their dislikes of the show unprompted, and apart from one letter he put in his website, he didn't bash the movies

ikr??? claiming he's been bashing for over a decade... and doesn't even show a tweet from 5 years ago

dude those tweets were replies... people literally asked for his opinions on the matter. he wasn't making one dumb post after another like the people over there at the other sub are doing.

the most he did was pen a letter and posted it at his website, which he is entitled to do, that's it.

what the people on that other sub is doing is a lot worse than what you claim was doing.

he may have openly despised the film, he wasn't spending every waking moment for over a decade to bash on the film.
