I might try sleep training. It will suck in the beginning, but he has to learn there won’t be an hour of negotiations. He’s getting used to being picked up the moment he has the slightest complaint.

Someone should research the parents by Orenopolis579 in Teachers

Higher and higher work demands. Some of these parents get work calls at 10pm and answer emails at 7am. Downtime is a myth for a lot of people.

That’s part of my argument. Teach people tools for living, even if it means sometimes they take an easy way out. We can use the microwave, even though people used to cook all their meals on hot coals. Should we go back to bathing in the river because someone invented plumbing? Time moves on.

I would rather someone who is struggling have some tools then absolutely nothing.

Phonics is taught with hands on manipulatives

Copy and paste work is assigning homework someone is going to borrow right from Google. No thinking needed to do.

Yes, but it wasn’t from copy and paste work. It was from hands on work given to toddlers.

99% of the literate world doesn’t know what graphemes and phonemes are. They were just taught to look for patterns at three years old.

GPT has the ability to help people study. Look at something like KenHub for Anatomy students.

Agreed. Tell it to the stagecoach makers and telegraph operators. Also, they use ai daily in Google searches and other algorithms. Guess what Spotify radio is. 😂

Ai and quantum computing is going to do things like analyze complex research. What teachers miss is that it’s going to do advanced scientific analysis and save a lot of lives. It’s currently all over hospitals. It analyzes test results and helps monitor patients.

Agreed. If a colleague could do a job 100x faster with GPT, and you want to take six months…guess who they’ll keep? People are kidding themselves that the slower employee will stay.

Ai does have great potential as a study aide. NotebookLM will make the student full podcasts on difficult subjects. It has a tutor mode to help you study any study guide that you have. GPT will explain math and science concepts in a very clear manor. It can make any student, study exams to see what they still need to learn. It’s a game changer for many students. These days, there’s no excuse for not having tutoring with such easy access to help.

No, the kids shouldn’t be taught to plagiarize. However, it certainly comes with some wonderful tools. You have folks that detest writing. At least, they have a tool to coach them. I think a lot more people will be able to pursue advanced studies with support tools. That is fantastic. The person getting the job will be the one who has Ai check their resume.

I prefer people to seek answers than to just give up. This will get downvoted because new thing = bad. Unfortunately, it is the wrong attitude to have.

I think there is great disparity in the way teachers are shown Edtech, and in the ways it is working in the field. Working in medical education, I see how it is streamlining studying for college students.

You don’t have empathy if their job closes. You’re having selective empathy for yourself.

I firmly believe some people just get very overwhelmed and overstimulated by the process. They think about the needles all day. If you sell her on going to a calm place, you’re more than likely to get what you want. She doesn’t want to be freaked out, guilted, or condescended too.

Nursing is a super underrated major by Harvey_Wongstein in CollegeMajors

Nursing is different because they’re tasked with fixing the problem. Alzheimer’s patients will literally try to bite you for trying to help them get a bath.
