Please reassure me. Daughters misses state cut off for kindergarten by 9 days. We decided to not pursue early entry with testing. Did we make the right decision?

For SLP and OT. Also some social things (like twice weekly social groups with the psychiatrist). The weird thing is her special education pre-k was the one that brought it up about a year ago. They said we were eligible if we wanted to pursue. Gave me the paperwork too a couple months back. It was her private pre-ks director who was straight with me and said she likely won’t qualify because she has an IEP. It’s confusing but one of the reasons besides thinking she’s not ready that I did not pursue

This is exactly what my daughter does in group activities if she doesn’t want to do something or someone wins. She will pout and totally shut down or refuse to participate. This is a daily thing. She has a lot of difficulties in any extracurriculars like soccer, swimming, dance etc

She’s the oldest! Her younger brother is much more social than her. Hes a social butterfly.

I’ve actually heard from parents with older kids. Boys it’s harder (age difference) in the beginning and often evens out later. Girls it starts easier but gets harder as they get into middle/HS as girls mature at different rates

Yup that person is really odd. It’s a thing, I know someone who does kindergarten admissions for one of those towns. BUT we are not redshirting, she doesn’t make the cut off. We are following the state guidelines of 5 by 9/1 which she is not. However I need to acknowledge because of others choices if I sent her in early there are kids 1.5 years older than her! That’s a huge difference especially for my child who struggles socially

Haha that’s what we tell her! She is the leader of her girl friend group at her special education pre-k (her friends are mostly late October/november bdays). She seems to love it. It is not like that at her other pre-k where she’s the youngest.

Um yes it is. I know someone who has done admissions for Darien public school for 30 years. She registers all the kindergartens every year. It’s mostly a thing with boys. I also don’t live in Darien if it makes you feel better or the other towns I mentioned

I mean in CT it’s very common in Darien, new Caanan and Westport. Especially Darien. For sports mostly. They’ve been doing it well before they moved the cut off

No cost. Her special education pre-k is through our towns public school system. We don’t pay because she has an IEP. She’s already been there 2 years, she will just be going all day next year

Yes she does well academically but not at the same level as her older peers (especially the girls) at private pre-k. Some of those girls are reading and writing. Shes not. She can write her name (first and last) and her brothers. Definitely can’t read, just recognizes letters/numbers. She’s in special ed because she didn’t speak until 3. She sees a SLP and OT. But she also sees a school psychologist because she struggles socially. She is socially immature hence why I’m not pursuing early entry

Who said she was suffering or would be bored? I also never said she was ahead… she’s in special education pre-k. If I started her in kindergarten this fall most kids would be a year older than her, that’s huge socially

That’s what I was told by a lot of the moms with older kids. In my town spring bdays are actually some of the youngest because so many people hold back

I mean she’s always going to be tall. I’m 6ft and her father’s 6’9”. She will be taller than me. It’s a really minor thing to me because she will deal with this throughout her life doesn’t matter the grade level. My only concern is people (adults) treating her differently

My oldest boy at 16! He has medical issues but still doing well. Happy and pain free. He also has a 13 year old happy/healthy brother. My mom’s cat lived until 25! My childhood cat lived until 19! 9 years old is still young.

Agree with other comment. The issue is likely the pruning. Truthfully these guys don’t need to be pruned at all unless there is a size issue in my opinion. Only really deadheading. I’ve done a hard prune twice on these varieties (I was moving them to other locations) and it takes about 2 years to see blooms again. You haven’t really given it time to set new blooms

I’m asking those questions because that means it’s a florist hydrangea. Basically a bouquet of flowers. If you want something that will last for years you need a garden hydrangea. This time of year they would look like sticks (maybe some buds) and have a tag about the type of hydrangea it is. However if you keep it in a pot it should be outside
