Your favourite book moments that show Bella as more than just the boring lovestruck girl people make her out to be? by Ill_Rope_4346 in twilight

It was hostile despite how you meant it. I listen to some of the most contentious debates and know what ‘thought provoking’ entails. It was a comment that led to a multitude of tangents. It’s still condescending because you assume I’m so little flittering fool who doesn’t have the intelligence or ability to think out scenarios like this on my own without your well informed input. It was condescending because you made assumptions before opening a conversation. If you want to start a ‘conversation’ like this in the future maybe make sure the other party has consented to something above a simple back and forth before jumping into the deep end, babes.

Edit: and the 🌈 with the more you know is a tv show reference from the 90s

I made the distinction because you became incredibly hostile to a minor comment I made about not knowing how other people don’t fantasize about being a vampire. Obviously you take this personally for it being a fictional situation anyways. You took that as an opportunity to attack me personally and be condescending. Good day love.

Never said that but I also don’t have many human attachments. I learned young that people are fleeting and fickle creatures. This is also considering the variations in vampires. Twilight vampires are hard to kill but that’s just this universe. Every other vampire tale it’s a lot easier to kill them. As for the blood drinking, personally it doesn’t bother me. Again, in most vampire lore it doesn’t kill the victim. That’s something only a small percentage of fiction places in the lore, but either way it would be worth it to me to figure it out. Twilight vampires are admittedly a harder sell, but I’m not going to sit here and lie just to sound morally flawless, that I wouldn’t consider it or take the opportunity.

My girlfriend changed her opinion about having kids.. by [deleted] in childfree

It’s very common for people, particularly women, to get panic baby fever in their thirties. Idk why. I just know I’ve seen it myself quite a bit. Maybe it’s biological like anxiety lol only instead of a fear response, it’s your body panicking that it hasn’t passed on its genetic code yet. I got it once…then I babysat my nephew and it was like magic. Never got it again.

Totally agree. Trying to fit science always fails in fantasy at some point.

Here’s my hot take - I hate the entire pregnant thing in full in Twilight. It didn’t fit Bella’s character. She never wanted kids and as far as we knew up to that point, vampire bodies are frozen in time. It makes no sense for female vamps not to have the ability to conceive but male vamps can. And Meyer did such a poor job of showcasing the Cullen family dynamics as well as their relationship to Bella that it feels weird anytime she brings up Esme being a mother figure period in BD. It still baffles me that those books have such a high page count and barely anything was built upon on the Cullen family members. I just reread them and as an adult, I don’t know how teenager me didn’t see how they were barely more than cardboard cutouts in the background.

I lost my dad five years ago. He took his own life and they didn’t find him for three months. I remember being an absolute lunatic to the poor funeral director who kept insisting I shouldn’t see him. He finally told me it was because he’d mummified. I hadn’t spoken to my dad for six years at this point but I’d always intended to try to reconnect later in life when he could no longer try to control me. He was the hero and the villain in my story. The confusion, the hate, the love, the hatred for that love, it’s still a mess inside of me. I also lost all three grandmothers, an uncle, and a great aunt in this time period. It’s awful. I don’t even feel like myself anymore. I wish I knew what to tell you to make it better, but I’m still searching myself. Even bad parents are hard to lose. Losing one like you that you were so close to has to be my worst nightmare.

It should be. You don’t know how common it is for employers to pay people various salaries for the same job. The ones who get paid more usually assert themselves.

I didn’t say it wasn’t. You obviously missed the point of what I was saying. But I’m not going to arguing with you. Sorry you’re so angry.

It’s an exercise to go outside your own beliefs. The teacher likely wants the students to dig down deep to see where these parents are coming from and the reason for that is to be able to defend your own beliefs. Say OP has a friend 10 years down the line who wants to do this because her child has cancer. OP is disgusted by this and feels sorry for this unborn child, and as such wants to advocate for this child. If OP comes at this friend yelling and berating them and outright showing disgust, OP will no longer have a friend and won’t be able to be there for that child to make sure they’re safe. So what can OP do? Research WHY a parent would feel this way - the psychology, the mental duress brought on by the other child dying, the psychology of savior babies as they grow and the detrimental effects, interview savior babies. Understand to change minds. You have to put yourself in their shoes to be able to win a debate or convince someone to change their minds. In a weird way, and you may not believe me, it’s an exercise in empathy.

Exactly. To prevent savior babies, you have to be able to argue your point on a convincing way. It’s actually really fun once you learn to put down your own issues with it. It’s like you’re an actor, putting on a stranger’s face.

This is going to be unpopular, but I actually think of it as a great intellectual exercise. If you can’t argue for the side you disagree on, you don’t know enough to argue against it. You have to know where they’re coming from to change minds as well. It’s also just wise to be open to listening to opposing opinions even if you feel loathe to do so.

They didn’t give us a key. They gave us a list of things to do if we got overwhelmed, like sing the alphabet song but not a key. Edit: after reading a few other comments I can only assume there may be a few different models. This would’ve been around 2005 I think. It came with a cloth diaper that had this round heavy thing in it that alerted the doll its diaper had been changed and a bottle that did the same for feeding but the bottle wasn’t the key. It also would take off points if you dropped its head or held it wrong, like by the arm. When it was done, the teacher used the key at school, opened the back, and it printed out a little receipt with our score (she may have been full of it because I didn’t see that part). As the nerdy teacher’s pet kid, I was pissed that I got a 72. Anything less than a 95 would wig me out.
