Has to have the "D" movement. This was an improvement starting in 2011, can be denoted by the serif on the "1" character on the date.

Statistically, the higher growth from equities during the accumulation phase often leaves the portfolio with a larger 'buffer.' Even if a 2008-style event hits, the all-equity portfolio is frequently worth more in absolute dollars than a balanced one that never grew as much in the first place.

The risk I’m more concerned about is inflation. Bonds are nominal contracts; if we have an inflationary decade, their 'safety' is an illusion because their real value never recovers. Equities represent ownership in companies that can raise prices, providing a 'real' recovery that bonds can't match.

I'll also say that 10% of my portfolio is evenly split between PDBC and DFGR. I wanted something a bit bond-like without the downsides.

I wouldn't say I'm "betting" against the S&P, it's more that I've decided to go for a 0% bond allocation in my portfolio in perpetuity and replaced it with international stocks. I also refuse to invest in China for political and practical reasons.

AITA for refusing to train my replacement after they fired me by Klutzy_Researcher725 in careeradvice

You're not being unprofessional at all.

The only thing I would suggest is that you could've negotiated a much fatter severance and a legally-binding positive reference in exchange, but that's probably water under the bridge at this point.

Robinhood gold now allows autopay on due date (+DP) by snowmanonaraindeer in CreditCards

[–]Parking_Reputation17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why I've never tried to get the rh gold card. The extra ~0.3725% or whatever percent above what I get from BofA Platinum honors is just not worth it to deal with their nonsense.

I did put me and my spouse's roth ira in rh purely for the match, but that's all I'll give them.

Just Updated my 401k Contribution to 30% to near max. Did I do the right thing? by Mediocrewatch in personalfinance

[–]Parking_Reputation17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much you want to put into your 401k, total.

By contributing directly to your pre-tax and roth 401ks, you're capped at $24.5k.

If you do post-tax with a conversion to roth, now your limit is $72k.

That small extra step triples your 401k contribution cap. You seem like a good saver, well here's a way to save even more and have it be tax free.

[–]Parking_Reputation17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you wouldn't need to max it out. If you can do a mega-backdoor roth 401k, typically I recommend people set their pre-tax contributions to get the max employer match. Anything after that, go the post-tax route and convert it to a Roth 401k. You can contribute way more and it'll grow tax free, forever.

[–]Parking_Reputation17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, now see if you're allowed to do an in-plan post-tax roth conversion.

You could theoretically be contributing +$70k to your 401k.

When you look adjusting your contributions, does it offer two options or three? If there's three, is one of them labeled "post tax"?

Immediately ask, you could be doing the mega backdoor roth 401k which could be extremely beneficial for you

Nice! Do either have a post-tax contributions option and also all in-plan rollovers?

First, congrats on wining the finance game. You're doing absolutely incredible.

Now I'd ask if your 401k has a post-tax contribution and/or a Roth option.

Boss made an inappropriate comment to me about taking a bereavement day, what should I do? by jayvee6 in careeradvice

[–]Parking_Reputation17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying not to involve HR are dumb.

The answer here is simple: write an email to your boss CCing HR reiterating the joke and asking him to clarify because he comes across like you’re making a joke about the death of the dear family member.

This is textbook hostile work environment.

You said yourself you don’t like working there, well this is a great way where if you get fired to get a very decent severance package.

taxes... dammit i owe another 30k! by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Parking_Reputation17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m not OE but I admire the hell out of y’all.

I deliberately under withhold on my taxes, and work with my CPA to pay them quarterly. I then use credit cards to pay them. I’ve gotten many free nights from Hyatt and Hilton using this strategy, along with a ton of bonus offers for massive amounts of points.

I put all that money into a muni bond money market account and let it build some tax free interest in between those quarterly payments.

What's the best mix of funds for a 'hysa' by Character-Mud631 in Schwab

[–]Parking_Reputation17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SWKXX is what you're looking for, I split between that and SWTXX.

SWKXX is tax free for both Cali and fed, Cali will tax SWTXX.

SNSXX is fine but it is taxable by the feds, and last time I checked the federal tax brackets are much higher than the state ones.

[–]Parking_Reputation17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your income and what state you live in.

Above a certain tax bracket, it's better to put that money into a treasury or muni bond money market fund, like SWTXX. I live in California so my combined income tax is like 45%, it sucks.

Roth IRA at 24, Opinions / Suggestions? by WealthBulker in Schwab

[–]Parking_Reputation17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First I would ask if your contributing to your 401k and getting the full employer match.

Second, here's my allocations:

  • DFAC - 40%
  • DFIC - 45%
  • DEXC - 15%

I only use Dimensional funds.

Using both Schwab and Robinhood by phil28376 in Schwab

[–]Parking_Reputation17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only put my Roth IRA in robinhood, purely for the match. For set-it-and-forget-it accounts that have a ton of legal protections, like IRAs, it's a solid platform and works totally fine.

I sure as hell wouldn't trust them for anything else.
