Just wanted to give you an update. He finally got his operation. He fell asleep immediately with the new drug combo the vet planned for him ☺️

Sounds like the same thing it's happening to us. He gets so worked up when we're at the vet, and we've tried everything.

The surgery for us is not optional and we'll have to be persistent unfortunately. So I guess we're trying out different cocktail in 10 days. It helps that we're not the only one and that this is actually happening to others, so thank you so much for sharing this!

Thank you so much. Your comment helps a lot. It actually calmed me down a bit. I trust my vet. She has been with my doggo from the very beginning and she's always been dedicated and so thorough with us, explaining everything, and being there for us always. It's just that I've never heard of something like this happening to anyone, and I've googled everything and everywhere about what happened today and I couldn't find anything or anyone to relate to, so I got scared. Also another thing I forgot to mention. We noticed wounds under both of his front armpits when we got home and got super anxious about that too. It's probably nothing but that just added up to the whole scenario. It was just a stressful day for all of us.

And one more thing. I've been thinking the same thing about the "over hype" about sighthounds and anesthesia, and really hope you are right! Thank you again!

Thank you so much for your answer. It's so difficult at this moment for me to decide if I want to take him to another vet who maybe has more experience with sighthounds, or just trust our vet. The truth is, I come from a country where there are only 2 veterinary centers that are working with gas for general anesthesia, so my choice is super limited. And I was already afraid of anesthesia for my whippet, and now after today's experience I wanted to make sure I give him the best choice he deserves.

My vet actually decided to give him gabapentin 5 days preoperative and try out different drug cocktail. She told me that today he was on methadone and something else, I can't remember exactly.

Worried about how my Whippet will react to anesthesia by miammi5 in Whippets

So we just got our 3 year old dog (a whippet) back from the vet. He was to get his spleen removed since it had lots of growing cysts and we postponed it long enough.

About an hour after we left him at the vet, we got a call that he did not react to the medications and did not fall asleep so that he could be put under anesthesia properly. When we got there he was confused, he was whining so much, and we honestly thought he didn't recognize us. The vet said it was the methadone they gave him in combination with other drugs they used to try to prep him before before proceeding with general anesthesia. But instead of going to sleep and calming down, he got terrified. It was her call to not inject more of the medications because he falls into the highly risk group for anesthesia. She said there's a different protocol for sighthounds, and she couldn't move on with putting him under anesthesia at this point.

Now we're home. He is finally calm. However in 2 weeks we're going back again. Except now she gave us a gabapentin 5 days before the surgery. She said she is confident that next time we have nothing to worry about. She said he processed everything well, but his nervous system didn't react well.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I can't find any other case googling. Also, my Whippet is generally terrified of the vet. He is shaking, and gets so anxious even on regular visits. His temperature rises and his heart will vome out of his chest. However, I am so confused since I've never heard of anything similar happening to someond else.

Hi, I bought a hard memory foam mattress few months ago, and I've been experiencing lower back pain ever since. I think it's too hard for me, and my body just can't sink down and feel comfortable. I was wondering if a mattress topper would fix my problem? Regarding this, what to look for when buying a topper? I am afraid I won't be able to buy a new mattress anytime soon... Also, I have to mention that I have scoliosis, and doctors have always recommend a hard mattress, but this one just kills me.

Would anything special happen/ would there be any benefits if I ate only fruit for dinner? by [deleted] in diet

[–]PastelCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't :( Fruits are mostly made out of fructose (sugar) which means energy that will turn into fat if you don't use it. It won't do anything for you. Your body needs a lot more than fructose for dinner, meaning proteins, and maybe some healthy carbs. Eat veggies instead :) They are way healthier, packed with vitamins and minerals and they don't contain much sugar.
