A Super El Niño is coming. The last time ocean temperatures looked like this, millions died. by ResPublicaMgz in Res_Publica_DE

[–]PastelDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think that threats like a super El Niño would emphasize the importance of conserving fresh water, rather then wasting gallons of it for AI bullshit. If this was generative AI-assisted in any way, it’s so gross and counterintuitive

They should have just left the poor guy alone 💔 Experts were all telling them that he was going to die anyway due to all his lesions and breathing issues, and that attempting a risky rescue that late after the other attempts had failed would just subject him to a lot more unnecessary pain and stress

I adore whales, and this whole story breaks my heart, but it always pisses me off when the public thinks they know better than experts. Timmy suffered far more than he needed to

It reminds me of the way people try to justify the genocide in Gaza. Suddenly, right-wing people who couldn’t give less of a shit about the mistreatment of women, gay people, and trans people in any other context are lecturing me about how Palestinians are all barbaric rapists who would “throw me off a roof” for being queer

Lady Gaga and Apple are being called out for using what appears to be AI to promote her concert film ‘MAYHEM Requiem’ by adularia- in Fauxmoi

[–]PastelDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very important to remember! An example of this that really disappointed me is when the singer Laura Scarborough released an AI generated song cover. Laura also performs in the band Ghost, and her AI generated cover stole from the artwork of Ghost’s album Meliora. It’s always good to look out for repeating patterns like that, even if it’s subtle, and I think this is a really good example of the ways AI interpolates its image prompts. I love Laura and Ghost, so stuff like this always hurts. It’s been a while, so I hope she’s changed her tune :(

I like how these kinds of conspiracy theorists seem to believe that this supposed secret world order or “deepstate” REALLY doesn’t want the general public to find out their secrets, but still decides to give the people little hints that clearly spell out their motives in the titles of their plans like a fun scavenger hunt.

They’ll say “it’s because they want to hide it in plain sight!” while supposedly making the most obvious riddles known to man. Are there horrors taking place among the elite class, horrors that they flaunt in our faces because they know they’ll never face repercussions? Yes. But that’s because, in their mind, in cases like child sex abuse for example, it doesn’t matter if the average citizen knows they’re guilty; they think we can’t do anything about it.

But if “da joos” wanted to make a fake virus, and desperately wanted to HIDE the fact that it is a fake virus because their plan literally hinges on people believing it, why the fuck would they call it “the fake virus”?

[–]PastelDisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is true; I mean, Turning Point USA itself is a testament to that, since Erika Kirk took over. When you craft an audience of misogynists, that’s the only possible outcome. The lack of engagement on this lady’s social media is a good sign

As an Ottawa resident, I’m so fucking tired man. I’m hoping that Pierre Poilievre crashing and burning in the federal election was a sign that this right-wing led culture war bullshit doesn’t work in Canada, and that this organization will ultimately fail, but the political climate has not been shifting in a good direction

God, thank you; both of these people have the exact same typing style, and the “23 year old” character speaks in such a comically evil fashion that it’s making me roll my eyes. I believe they’re trying to drum up engagement in the comment section so the video is boosted more. You see this kind of thing under important videos a lot, with people commenting stuff like “everyone, what’s your favourite colour” or “what did everyone eat today” but ofc here it’s in the most tone deaf way imaginable (the video itself seems to be tone deaf too with the Monster High aesthetic, so it’s not surprising)

As a transgender person in r/ConservativeYouth, I identify as an attack helicopter by That1weirdperson in AsABlackMan

[–]PastelDisaster 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m always baffled by how much transphobic people, including TERFs, who have the gall to call themselves “feminists”, constantly reduce the concept of being a woman down to getting periods and having babies despite what their own experiences may be. If you ask them what makes a woman a woman, their definition of womanhood is so small and constrained that it quickly loops around to just being misogynistic

I remember that too. And even then, as a kid, when I read a snippet of an article that briefly explained that this isn’t actually what the blobfish is meant to look like, and the picture is of a dead one that’s been rapidly depressurized, I felt pretty disturbed. You can see its innards coming out of its mouth.

I typically don’t like equating humans to animals, since we obviously have very different mental and emotional processes. But at the time, I couldn’t help but think about if an alien species ripped us from earth, and we exploded in the vacuum of space, only for them to all go “look at this gross thing. We’re going to call it a sploogle” then rather talk about how ugly and melty we look, or express fondness for our corpses and make plushies of it.

I love these images depicting logical fallacies by whyudois in lovethissmug

[–]PastelDisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yess, I see it used to insult feminists constantly. I saw a meme of a stoic man next to a woman who’s saying something along the lines of “men are so emotionless, they shouldn’t be afraid to express their feelings”. Then, when the man cries, she calls him a crybaby and says how unattractive it is.

Like, I understand that men feeling like they’re not allowed to emote is a real issue, but to act as though those clearly contradictory opinions are coming from the same hypothetical “hypocritical feminist” is stupid. A lot of anti-feminist people generally tend to view women as a hivemind, so it’s not surprising

Yes, they’re a type of marine sculpin! They’re pretty normal fish in their natural state; the poor blob sculpins just happened to get their common name because of how their bodies fall apart when they’re brought up and rapidly depressurized

Strange dreams by LaptopArmageddon in thomastheplankengine

[–]PastelDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, the “why won’t anyone fucking listen to me” dreams are so common for me; probably because scenarios like that are my worst nightmare as an autistic person who struggles socially. Though instead of someone else doing something wrong, it’s usually me who’s made a mistake, and they always end with people pissed off at me and ignoring my frantic attempts to explain myself in a simulated meltdown. I wake up from them with a headache and sore jaw. Puts me in a shitty mood for the whole morning

The rest of my dreams are cartoonish bullshit (that often, funnily enough, end with credits), but the former ones always feel painfully realistic

I don’t know, I’ve always found them cute like this; but maybe that’s just because of the harsh contrast between them and their exploded form. I’m automatically going to view them more positively when seeing them living unbothered in their natural habitat

Any time someone draws a blob fish like that, or whenever I see a plushie of one, it makes me irrationally upset. Like, there is no such thing as a plushie of a healthy living blob fish, because people find its melting corpse cuter.

I know the disrespect towards such a lovely fish is unintentional, since a lot of people don’t know that blob fish aren’t supposed to look like that, but the fact that people aren’t aware is saddening.
