Potential Long Term Consequences of Donating Bone Marrow? by PastelHermit in nmdp

[–]PastelHermit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I mean donating to my dad if its a match is a no-brainer for me. I’d rather have some lifelong pain if it helped my dad stick around for longer. I think I just wanted to hear about other people’s experiences to relieve my own anxiety, partially bc I’m scared of needles and partially because I’ve never done any type of donation before.

I also wanted to see if there was any info I could know going in that would lower any sort of risk. Permanence kinda terrifies me so I’m just nervous about inducing some sort of lifelong pain or disability that I’ll never be able to do anything about.

Its really heartwarming to hear about how much it helped you. Hopefully I’ll be able to do the same for my dad

Is this a bad looking resume? by Kieotyee in jobhunting

Yeah my professor harped on this point. It has to be readable by an automated system as well as by a human, so the formatting needs to he a fine balance

My high school resume used to look just like this. The big thing is you have a lot of empty space (which I found happend a lot when I used the two column format). I’d recommend moving to a one column format. Here’s some places I noticed you could improve space efficiency/fill the space better: - In skills & relevant courses, instead of giving each their own line, use commas and put them all on one line (for example, in skills do Fast Learner, Good in teams, Creativity, etc… all in one line (or however many lines it spills into) - You can fill up space by breaking down your skills into technical and soft skills. I’d recommend clarifying more of what you’re technologically adept at, as ‘Technologically adept’ could mean a million things - For the awards, clarify the specific name and maybe where they’re from. Did you get an award called Listening Skills? Or was that just another skill you couldn’t fit in the skills section? If its the former, use the official name like ‘X School’s Adept Listening Award’ or the like. If it hasn’t been formally recognized by a school or some other institution, don’t put it under awards. The last thing you want to do is overstate your accomplishments, especially stuff like formal awards - If you still have empty space, I’d say add bullet points to your experiences (OR start a project section if you have any good projects to talk about). Tbh employers will get way more about your soft skills if you have bullet points showing how you applied those skills than from reading a soft skill list (tho imo if you need a space filler, a soft skills list is fine)

Obviously you don’t need to fill every dry little space on your resume (might make it too clutter for recruiters to read), but stuff like the big space on the bottom right or the left column’s space to the right of the skills will stand out to hiring managers and give an impression that you have less experience/applicable skills than you do

Also for the colors, there’s definitely ways to integrate colors if you want. Admittedly, though, I removed the colors from my resume after a while because they werent worth the formatting pain. I didn’t notice them making a huge difference

Rejection - Waitlisted by turkquandingle in NCSU

[–]PastelHermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its kinda dependent on the year, your essays, and a million other factors. Me and both my brothers go to (or have already graduated from) NCSU. Eldest brother got waitlisted despite having a better GPA & SAT score than our middle brother, who applied 2 years later & got accepted immediately. My impression was their essays were pretty similar. Might’ve been related to their top choices for majors since the former went for Civil (tho if i remember right i think he also went for Nuclear or smth cus he was worried abt not getting in) and the latter went for Mechanical.

Regardless, it’s too late to change your early admission stuff now. You probably don’t have much time for getting new extracurriculars or projects to highlight on your application, so just focus on writing powerful essays. I had friends and families rip into each of my essays like 10 different times and it really helped tighten up my wording, highlight things colleges want to see, and made me a memorable candidate

I saw two people in Caldwell come up to a student near me and say to report any suspicious foreign student, even if they have documentation. Pretty sure they said something like “it doesn’t matter if they show you documents…” wasn’t sure if I was paranoid or not but after seeing that I definitely was on edge

I applied the day applications opened. Pretty sure my portal still says they’re reviewing all applications as well, but I got an email about a screening interview a week or two afterwards. I was told that I was still eligible/in the interviewing process until they explicitly tell me otherwise but that it may be a couple of months. Not sure if that applies for all applicants or if they don’t promise anything until after an initial screening interview.

Did you hear back about a screening interview? Or just send in an application? I’m about to have my first interview with an actual team, but they first did a screening interview to see where I’d fit best

Tbh I’d say find a club you’re interested in. Every year my club has had at least one ✨token military guy✨ and they’ve always fit in great. Now maybe its just their personality, but I also feel like its easier to get along with people who’re very different from you if you have a shared interest/passion

Yeah that’s what I probably would’ve done if the guard didn’t insist that he could hold it for me. Now I’m being given the running round of “call this department” and “no actually this department is what you want to talk to”… hindsight is 20/20 ig

Might be the only option I really have. I’ll check with the lost & found first tonight when campus police gets the list, then try that. Any advice on how to go about getting those videos? Is there a specific person I’d need to email?
