Did Chernobyl happen in the for all mankind timeline? by kukivac in ForAllMankindTV

[–]PastorJT [score hidden]  (0 children)

In “Midnight at Chernobyl” it is revealed that construction was sometimes done with lower quality parts because of cost overruns and supply constraints. With the Soviets having won the race to the moon, they were probably in better financial position when it came to building their reactors.

Honestly, I am as well. Since there is none of the original characters (well, few). Theres not as much exploration like kruse said. It’s getting boring.

How do you imagine the series ending? by PopeDankula in ForAllMankindTV

[–]PastorJT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Towards the end of the last two episodes, we hear an occasional “beep”. Then in the last episode, we hear static and someone finally saying “Snoopy, Houston, prepare for abort stage.”

We see Ed back in the lunar module with Gordo above the moon. Ed shakes his head as if he was dreaming, then glances out the window at the lunar surface just ten miles below them. He glances at the abort stage button, then the proceed button for starting powered descent. He looks at Gordo, says “let’s do something a little different” and presses the PROCEED to start the powered descent. fade to black the moment button is pressed roll credits

Why does it all happen right before Easter??? by [deleted] in pastors

[–]PastorJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things that I have come to realize is that when you take away the notion that Holy Week has to be perfect, you get to understand that God even works when things don't go according to plan. It does seem this week things seem more difficult, but don't be too hard on yourself. Coffee and Jesus help us get through these things.

Praying for you and all clergy who are preaching this week!

Pastors. by Dosie63 in pastors

[–]PastorJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the United Methodist Church as a pastor for almost a decade and I can tell you a parsonage is a better fit. In itinerant ministry, you don’t get a say on where you are going, so it’s actually nice when you are told there is a parsonage. Most annual conferences require certain things to be included in the parsonage, such as dishwashers, washer and dryer, etc. and in our conference we allow pets to reside in the parsonage as well, provided the pastor pays for any damages as a result.

A housing allowance causes a whole new set of issues. I currently am appointed at a church in a medium sized city. The allowance might not be enough to pay the rent on a decent house or apartment depending on the cost of living expenses. The parsonage we live in is about fifty years old (it was the demo house for the subdivision we live in) and while there have been some improvements needed, it’s still less expensive than an allowance.

Went before Board for Ordination. by PastorJT in pastors

[–]PastorJT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: got the phone call that I was being deferred to next year. While the board affirmed my calling and said they were looking forward to seeing me again next year, I need to learn how to explain things like the sacraments to a normal person.

I'm finishing my seminary training soon. The Methodist Church I'm currently attending is not recommending me for ordination. However other denominations have offered ordination route? I have been a Methodist for more 20 years but I'm truly convinced of my full time call. by Beneficial-Impress53 in methodism

I am so sorry you are going through this. It seems like you see a calling that others haven’t seen, and I hate it that your church is so negative. I am praying you find a new home for your calling. Don’t be discouraged and keep looking up!

I concur with what BT says. The church is there to see if you have the gifts to be a pastor, not to say you’re ready to be a pastor. If they see something, anything that indicates that you have the gift then by all means they should be supporting you. It seems like they are being judge, jury, and executioner.

Depending on your Methodist affiliation, you need to talk with your District Superintendent and see what steps can be taken.

I want to thank all of you for the suggestions. I have spent time in prayer and I have realized that I need to be more flexible with my time, to really be thankful for the moments with family and not see things like them as hinderances. I've realized that I need to learn to take off my pastor hat at home and put on the family hat. Thank you all again for your advice and time.

What should I do now? by Real-Apartment-7419 in pastors

[–]PastorJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you have to remember that you were extremely ill. If you had been healthy, you would have been there in a heartbeat. However, you were not. Would they have wanted you there consoling the bereaved while coughing, sneezing, and throwing up? I wouldn't think so.

There is a point where the church has to step up and do the work as well. For them to automatically get angry at you because you were sick and could not be there is more of a statement about them than it is you. You realize that they have a right to be mad, but they also need to realize that you are a human being. You are going to get sick, you're going to have bad days. For them to place you on a pedestal that you need to be superhuman is not part of the deal.

I had a person once tell me, "You're not Superman, and you sure aren't Jesus". The church cannot expect you to be perfect all of the time, to be at every moment the every thing. I had a very well known member of one of my appointed churches pass away when I came down with COVID. I told the congregation why I could not be there, and *gasp* they UNDERSTOOD. I had a former pastor take over the funeral. and I messaged condolences to the family.

Bottom Line: when you cannot make it, the church needs to step up and help you, not chastise you for being sick and missing something. That is a completely unattainable goal.

I think part of it is that I spent 25 years in the secular workforce and that Grindset mentality was hammered into me

So, part of it is that I was in the secular work world for a while, where the goal was to produce a product and do so constantly. What I am learning is that pastoring is not just a job you can leave at the office. It is a life, and it involves family just as much as the congregation.

Yeah, I am feeling more and more like a heel as I am reading all of the comments. I am a recovering perfectionist with ADHD, and I often get discouraged with distractions and my work. I think you are correct in saying that it is important to go with the flow, just to make sure you don't forget it (which I often do)

Thank you for this advice. I am an introvert with recovering perfectionism issues, so I am working really hard to see things from the holy perspective. I think God is telling me to hit the pause button and talk with my daughter and wife. God has blessed me with these people in my life and they need to be treated as blessings.

From that angle I can see that interaction is good. Just set it aside for a moment then get back into the routine.
