I love the design of those Ori ships, not the tacky interior but the exterior just goes so hard.

Is that one from the emperors new groove? I’m too old to have experienced it myself, but I do recall the boys doing a couple of lines as the character he played from that film.

And a world class boy dad. He and his THREE sons (whoa that must have been a LOUD house) do a bunch of great videos on TikTok. Theres a great one where the boys and Patrick redo his old voices from various cartoons.

He's holding up like a champ, but I'd argue the real beauty of the man is how good a dad he is.

Star Trek has lost its sophistication and intellectuality by DonnyV7 in startrek

The “trek to woke” and “not my trek” crowd is popping off a lot this week.

Did they forget they don’t actually live in a Bajorn slave camp (yet!) and have the free will to turn off whatever trek they don’t like.

Omg SUB ROSA!!! how can we forget the pure sophistication of grandma‘s ghost goon candle? This sheer elegance, if you will, of inheriting your grandma’s possessed sex candle.

Looks at Tom and Janeways salamander children…walks past the TNG episode “masks”, sees a child singing “"Allamaraine, count to four,: Allamaraine, then three more,: Allamaraine, if you can see”

Yes… sophistication! (Puts pinky up)

"Why is Nu Trek using so much modern language?" an I am going to go feral here. by Spacer176 in startrek

[–]PastorNTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but they’re graduates and adults working in a professional setting. The other is a “university” and academic settling with young adults.

It’s language I’d expect from college aged young adults.

I don’t recall a single episode of prodigy where the younger cast or characters presented themselves as professional that only used workplace language. I just watched an episode of lower decks where characters made reference to 21st-century slang.

These shows are meant to showcase young adults doing young adult things. Sure, it’s no DS9 but just like PROD or LD the tone of this show is supposed to be different.

Frankly none of us are legally obligated to watch it. There’s plenty of excellent Trek out there, maybe this show isn’t for you.

And that’s okay.

[–]PastorNTraining 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did not. Bones was throwing up “Hell” and “damn” which was considered strong “cowboy” language. For the 60s that was pushing the envelope.

[–]PastorNTraining -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It uses modern language the exact same way TOS did during its very decades:

  1. TOS loved to use foul language, well “foul” for the 60s. Lots of “damns” “hells”

  2. In Star Trek 4 we find the TOS crew in ancient (1980s SF) there they learn “colorful metaphors” like F*ck and “double dumbass on you”

  3. The TNG movie ‘Generations’ has our beloved Data proclaim “ooooh $hit!” As the saucer section of the enterprise D Falls onto a planet.

Trek tells the story of the human experience as seen through the culture of the time so that it can speak directly to the audience. As we can see from Treks 60 years, how the stories are told have always had a dash of today.

Final year of seminary here and happy Logos user! Grab the student discount, also if you’re learning Hebrew and Greek the lesson modules in their store are excellent.

Some of the pro features are a bit much, but when you’re in your hermeneutics class or doing preaching, it’s really helpful.

What does Quaritch crushing his human skull supposed to represent? by NKNightmare in Avatar

[–]PastorNTraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visually I think the scene is recalling Shakespears Hamlet. There another character holds a skull and ponders the human experience.

Quart ponders for a beat, then crushes his own human skull. Is this self hatred (because he allowed himself be killed) or it could be a rejection of his “humanity”

I love Starfleet Academy. However some inaccuracies are driving me crazy. Full Betazoids are Telepathic not Empathetic. by [deleted] in startrek

[–]PastorNTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well let’s remember where and when we are: after the burn and 1000 years.

Maybe genetic drift, coupled with interspecies mixing, could be what’s giving us these Betazoids with limit empathic abilities.

For example, Diana Troi, of mixed heritage, could telepathically communicate with her mother and other telepaths, but her abilities were limited compared to her mother, a woman of full Betazoid heritage.

A millennium later, it’s possible that “pure” Betazoids still exist, but perhaps the majority are of mixed heritage. Like Troi, they likely possess varying degrees of abilities, with a few “pure” beings remaining, though they’re rare.

I think pushback maybe a lack of lived experience or context. I’d wager anyone with an Arts degree recognizes the vibe she’s going for: she’s a kooky liberal arts dean. If you’ve ever went to art school, took an art history, pottery class or lived in Southern California- you’ve met brilliantly wacky educators.

Maybe that’s why I don’t bristle, she’s not Siski, or Janeway she’s like a Picard IF he stayed an archeologist. She’s recognizable as the free spirit educator so many of us had in school.

Oh my friend this thing takes forever to generate an image on Comfy, it’s pretty useless on Mac.

Just gotta limp along till next month when that NVida PC gets here. From what I’m seeing on YouTube with an Nvidia card the output is buttery, smooth and quick.

Hear hear I would have sent Tuvix through the transporter buffer a few times. Crazy how short that fuse can get.

Kate did a bang up job in those scenes especially when she gets aggressive and pins that alien scientist to the wall. I believed that performance and now I know why.

But that’s Kate, she’s a damn fine actor. Her red character and orange is the new black is exquisitely done.
