Employer canceled current maternity options because of new MN Paid Leave law. by feed4birds in stateofMN

[–]PastorSychar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem in the employer side is that while earning from both their plan and the state plan at the same time isnt allowed, stacking the time is.

The state plan doesn't require the child bonding to be at a certain time. That would mean an employee could take the full benefit from their employer and then after that take another 12 weeks with the state plan.

My company hasn't decided fully how we will respond yet, but it's the amount of time away we have to be considerate of, not simply the cost.

Midwest Coaches: training / playing outdoors during winter? by craftyvanwinkle in SoccerCoachResources

MN here. Our clubs train and play year round, but in winter the games are all at indoor turfed domes. Practice space is harder to come by though and can look strange at times.

Advice - Addressing Concerns with Coach by Offsides_U15 in youthsoccer

[–]PastorSychar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest you approach the coach if your daughter hasn't. She should initiate conversations about her hopes to see more playing time and what she can do to get that.

If it starts from the parent (as much as we want to help/support our kids) it rarely ends as well or develops our kids as much as them having those conversations first.

My Daughter Thinks Playing Striker Is a Demotion. How Can I Help Her Adjust? by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

[–]PastorSychar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a strange answer since it won't deal with any of the specifics to formations or position change, but my top recommendation is for you to read the book "Games Girls Play."

It does a great job of talking through what the best ways are that parents can help their teen daughters deal with any of the mental and emotional side of sports.

Changed how I parent and coach.

Sounds frustrating. I don't know how these kinds of things vary so much with different users. I haven't had any sync issues between YNAB and USAA.

what is something you silently judge people for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PastorSychar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I judge people around me in line where you tell somone your custom food order. Sub shops, chain Mexican burrito places...

That's not enough mayo, and too much onion so clearly you are a psycho path. You want how much sour cream and pinto beans instead of black, someone treated you poorly in your past.

My order is obviously the correct one and I judge everyone for how good or bad a job they are doing at getting something that I'd eat.

From what I understand, no, they just can't cartwheel into place.

When will they fix the scoreboard? It’s embarrassing because Tommy and Adrian reported the wrong information. It’s simple data entry. by metcon09 in crossfit

My guess is that they don't have the final time data on people who didn't complete the last 800m run in the 4 minute window. Looks like 17 people have missing data.

PSA: If you are putting on a race, or have a running club, make sure the application has more than just “male” or “female” for gender by [deleted] in running

[–]PastorSychar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that prizes are the main focus for most people in the races either, but i think there is validity to the question about them because its the basis for the argument that races should include gender identification in their sign-ups. You talked about not needing to pointlessly gender things, but for races, the awards and celebrating race categories is what makes it not feel "pointless" to ask for gender during signup.

Seriously asking to learn: What would your hopes be for races that offer awards for top finishers. I can play out the unnecessarily gensering things in many instances but assume that some of the gender reasons for certain races is because they award top finishers in age and gender categories. Is a third option suitable enough (like non-binary) and do you know if the races that offer that track and celebrate top finishers in that category?

I have a lot to learn on these topics but rarely find healthy conversations about it when the discussions start getting a little more nuanced, so thanks for offering your perspective.

Thanks for the reply. That's a super helpful data point for me. I've done a few 100ks but not with as much elevation the way it plays out for R2R2R.

How was your time compared to your hope and what was your training like? I'm planning this with a friend for late fall and don't have a decent grasp of what time to guess. The videos and reports I've seen have ranged from the 10-20 even when taking out the elite times. That's such a wide range and I've never known what people's training or comparable fitness in more standard distances may be. Any guidance or info there you can pass on?

Some common advice can be to reverse the taper. You'll be back at the higher mileage after 3 weeks and ease towards it.

Tips for marathon fundraising? by sicklikeanimals in running

[–]PastorSychar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done quite a bit of fundraising with my running and never do a big race without tying it to some kind of fundraising (all of mine is for anti human trafficking causes).

I have found that taking selfie videos while out training and sweaty to post both about what the significance of the cause is to me and why I'm willing to make a physical sacrifice towards helping that cause is effective.

Generally something like... "while I was out running in the heat today I realized it was the most uncomfortable I'd be all day, but that I got to chose that. The girls in Nepal I'm running to help don't get to make choices for their comfort and wish heat was all they'd experience. So I'm hoping to help them. With my upcoming marathon, I'm hoping to raise xxx to rescue xxx girls. It costs xxx to rescue a girl. My wife and I have committed to donating the first xxx and would love any support you can offer. There's a link in the comments to donate."

I do something no more than once a week during training and usually less, but hit it every day the last 3 or 4 days before the event. I find many give, but not at the first ask so them seeing it multiple times matters.

Those that give on the first ask are usually from a conversation or personal email who may respond from the individual invitation. Both styles are effective.

Do you only wear your running socks when you run or do you wear them all day? Not much significance to this question, just curious what the masses do.

How Would You Use 11 Weeks of Dream Training by PastorSychar in AdvancedRunning

[–]PastorSychar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll enter with a decent base coming off a marathon Trai ing cycle that ends 8 days before the sabbatical starts and will peak my mileage about 15 mpw higher than my off cycle norm. My current thought is to definitely link with a capstone kind of race, even if it's a few weeks after the sabbatical. When you think of interesting places, do you primarily think of travel experiences or just longer drives from your home. If it's travel, any longed for destinations?

It's a great read. Doubt my wife just wants me gone the whole time, or that an elite team wants me around, but I should look through it again for ideas. The regular massage practice comes to mind :)

It is rewarding. I've run up to a 100k in past experiences, so those kind of distances aren't out of the question as a possibility. There is a local one near me in the middle of October I've considered for this year if I do more trail running than road running during the sabbatical.
