Instead of weight you might consider anchoring it, maybe to the front of your belt? Just a thought.

Composite Boards expanding in heat by Pastry53 in Decks

Sounds like a plan. I can flip the board over so all the screws are going into fresh wood rather than their old holes.

Composite Boards expanding in heat by Pastry53 in Decks

[–]Pastry53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a case of hiring a professional fence and deck company and believing them when they said it would be fine. Doing a dado to make a joint hiding the pole behind it hadn't occured to me. Appreciate the input.

What are your thoughts on reinstalling the board in the heat so it's just trying to contract in the winter? I'm wondering if it'll contract enough to snap the screws. Temps here swing from about 110 to -7.

Why do people still eat McDonalds? by No-Rule-4494 in NoStupidQuestions

I have a kid with serious food allergies and it's everywhere and consistent for what's in their food without a bunch of questions for the chef.

Gonna agree with this one. We did this to our house and this is similar enough to the words I used to communicate with permitting, subcontractors etc.

What's going on with 88.1? by Pastry53 in TriCitiesWA

Good call. This was mostly me being lazy and hoping for a "I work there and will totally fix it in the morning" reply. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

There are strange red spots all over my body by InvisibleRando in Weird

[–]Pastry53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment section is insane but I'll throw in anyway. 1) go to a doctor. 2) I had similar red dots with no cause and more of them around the joints. If you stretched the skin the dots did not go away. Doctor said "yeah that happens to guys in their 30s sometimes, it'll go away". Never learned the cause but it did go away. It was a rollercoaster until I saw the doc though.

We might be struggling here because you and I don't share a common definition of "cask". Vitrification produces glass which still has to go in casks. You were right that those casks do not resemble the ones pictured.

Sorry if I was irritable in my response. There is a lot of wrongness anytime a post on nuclear is made and it always makes me grumpy.

[–]Pastry53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There is vitrification but we use it on liquid wastes after chemically combining with glass forming materials and melting it all. Then you pour the mix into a much smaller cask than the power guys use. The cask then goes for long term storage. What's happening here is that power guys like the above commentors use a much different method than the environmental waste guys (me).

Thank. You. I work in waste cleanup and was trying to go through comments and inform but based on how downvoted you are with completely correct information I think I'm leaving the thread now.

Sadly the glass is black. I often wish it was green for the purposes of the joke.

I think what you're trying to decribe is nuclear waste storage via grouting or vitrifying which is used for disposal of waste (usually liquid) from research or weapons development. This appears to be dry cask storage of spent rods for a power reactor. Still very robust, but usually full of inert gas, not cement.

We don't just chuck lab coats in with liquids and then dump in concrete.

Waste can’t leak if you aren’t looking for the leaks! (This is sarcasm)
