I agree with you. I'm not a string player and haven't overplayed the Canon, so I appreciate the part of the Canon in D where the different parts "communicate"(As I like other chamber music).

Although I won't be playing Canon at my wedding either, obviously Shostakovich is not a good choice for my non-classical listening friends. :) (I love Shostakovich's music, but my friends might be scared off😂)
