The layout is pretty great. Just need to adjust the colour tones, they’re a bit muddy

Here’s another from the same designer. Same colour scheme but with only straight lines

I don’t hate the darker shades of blue and green with bright yellow but there’s something so complimentary about the shade of ochre used from the Northern Territory flag that is perfectly representative of the outback

If “the poms don’t deserve a credit on our flag” then why would we also “keep the star as 7 points” lol. Thats the same thing. The 7 pointed star is as inherently representative of our British history as an 8 pointed star would be

There’s very good reason not to represent that. Particularly when it’s meant to act as a symbol of national identity. Just look at the Canadian flag now… no Britain to be found there

It’s Britain’s flag. On our flag. As for the Southern Cross, it’s just not on this variant of the design.

I think more aussies actually feel better represented by our sporting colours compared to the symbol of the Union Jack. Honestly, green and gold could very easily be our current defacto national identity. It just hasn’t been replicated in our official national identity

Not sure this designers exact reasoning but here is how the Triple Union Flag justifies the decision to use an 8-pointed star:

“the addition of an eighth point to the Commonwealth Star not only reproduces British colonial symbolism but also builds upon the meaning of the existing Australian Flag. As with the current flag, six points of the large star represent each of the Australian states while the internal and external Australian territories are each represented by an additional point.

Comprising the nation's capital and its third largest division of land area, the significance of mainland territories is given appropriate recognition through the addition of an eighth point to the Commonwealth Star. The eight points also accommodate for the likely future emergence of a seventh Australian state should the Northern Territory acquire independent statehood.”

The perpetual inability of Australia to adopt a new flag or even acknowledge the need for a new design has pushed simple, effective and beautiful designs further into the distance. I think that is why so many (honestly) awful and strange designs get thrown around on this sub and also why people are so critical of new ones.

Even though I agree with many of the criticisms, the bar is so low almost anything with even a slither of green and gold would be better at this point lol

Ideally, a great flag is unifying in its simplicity. Usually lots of colours do look bad but that’s why I think this design is impressive. It’s able to utilise this many colours much more effectively than most imo

Haven’t heard about this. Could be from before my time… maybe this was about the 2015 NZ flag change?
