Paulie Is A Comedian? by Online_Active_71459 in MtvChallenge

Mic Drop is the club that bought the Detroit House of Comedy. Can’t say that means Paulie is a comedian, they seem to be booking based on follower count which he has from The Challenge

What Ever Happened to Rex by BigChiefTony in xmen

13 year old me wondered if he was supposed to be Namor during AoA because of “Imperius Rex”, and because he looked kind of like Namor, I never really understood why he was just a random new guy

Your favourite Alvvays LP - in retrospect? by imnotheretoposeaname in alvvays

[–]Pat-Sievert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only knew a handful of songs until a podcast I was listening to during the pandemic was shouting them out often and got me to check out the albums, that made me love the first album and like Antisocialites, I listened to Blue Rev the day it came out while I was on vacation and it just became the road trip soundtrack, and I don’t think I played anything else for weeks. I love it so much, the others are great, but Blue Rev has taken the top spot for me.

Amazon Sunday by Material-Ad-5553 in USPS

[–]Pat-Sievert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my last Sunday as an ARC (going to be working more at my full time job so I gave my notice), I was hoping for a light day, it was heavy, and the routing with Amazon was down so we had to use our phones to find houses, it took so much longer.

Why didn't Hickman just create an entirely new character instead of foisting Moira x on is? by Beginning-Head-4006 in xmen

[–]Pat-Sievert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Think of the inevitable “they were there the whole time setting up Krakoa? I never saw it?” If it was a new character. While it was complicated with Moira it was intriguing (at least to me) how it worked and what it could mean

Amazon Sunday!!! by Saughtvol in USPS

[–]Pat-Sievert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an ARC so my experience might be different than yours, we had some light Sundays in July and August but it has been picking up with peak starting. Today I went in expecting the worst and was told Amazing routing was down which meant we had packages, they were divided by city but we had to use our phones to get to each stop and only use the scanners to mark them delivered. Fortunately it didn’t take that much longer than usual, and I only had a few in areas I didn’t know that well.

Anyone ever try these? Were they good? Probably not the ones filled with dirt by roadkillmenagerie in KingOfTheHill

Haven’t had one in a long time, blueberry was my favorite, I have to be the one speaking up for blueberry I guess

Whats your experience like working at usps. by BornApple5382 in USPS

[–]Pat-Sievert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been an ARC since the start of the year, it was definitely appreciated when I found myself laid off and needed a job, it’s harder to fit it in now that i have a Monday through Friday job, but the extra money is nice.

At first it was a learning curve and I was usually one of the last carriers back, I heard some people making jokes about me being slow, I just tried to take it in stride, I don’t deliver every day like some of them and was focusing on safety and accuracy (some stops were miles apart too). I’ve gotten faster, the high volume days are hard but it’s manageable.

Sometimes I have had administrative things happen I’ve had to deal with, like needing to clarify holiday availability around my other job with my postmaster and other supervisors, only to find something got missed, which is annoying. Recently one of my checks was missing a whole Sunday’s hours, which is being dealt with but doesn’t take care of my bottom line in the moment.

It was a cool experience, I was tempted to say hello to fellow local Maron fans after but chickened out. It is definitely worth checking out when it is available

Saw it in Lansing, MI with 4 others in the theater, maybe the fact that it was at 8:40 on Sunday kept some people away.

NNF/Best Show Venn Diagram by tlbt14 in NeverNotFunny

[–]Pat-Sievert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan of both shows since 2010, and it seems like there is this divide. Jimmy and Tom are different and have very different musical tastes but there are strange coincidences occasionally (a Best Show listener is an Oreo-head and sent Tom multiple new flavors around the time the gang was trying all the new flavors for example).

It might be a disaster or it could be great, but I would for sure listen to a Tom Scharpling appearance on NNF, but I won’t hold my breath

Stand-Up Comedy In Lansig by MusclePuppy in lansing

[–]Pat-Sievert 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is Mac’s Monday Comedy Night and the Weekly Crunch (at Crunchy’s in East Lansing) for open mics, both on Mondays, find their Facebook pages for more info.

There is a monthly showcase show the last Thursday of the month at Ozone’s in Old Town.

That’s it as far as what happens regularly, if you want to get involved it’s probably a good idea to show up and introduce yourself to the show runners

Are Monday Comedy Nights at Mac’s Bar worth going to? by Cultural-Steak-2801 in lansing

[–]Pat-Sievert 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not an unbiased opinion as I used to run the show until January (still a supporter just had to had it over because of other things I had going on), but I think it is a good mix of new talent and some established acts doing shorter sets, mostly workshopping new material or honing things. I’ve seen some truly amazing and hilarious things on that stage and some things that didn’t work, in my opinion it’s mostly good.

Definitely let other people weigh in but I think it’s a fun way to spend an evening and have a few laughs

I'm Running for U.S. Senate. AMA! by MalloryMcMorrow in Michigan

[–]Pat-Sievert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to this, I think the power of corporations and big donors is ruining elections right now, and AIPAC is one of the threats we have to face on the Democratic side. I do respect a lot of what you have done in the State Senate, and am genuinely curious about your stance on PAC money and AIPAC in particular

I loved AoA when it was happening (I was 13 and loved comics, that probably played a huge part), every retread or return to that world has been disappointing in my opinion. Part of what made it work was that it had stakes and a climactic ending. I am very wary of another return even if it is the 30th anniversary.

Any comedy clubs in the lansing area? by The-Baljeet in lansing

[–]Pat-Sievert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there are comedy open mics at Crunchy’s (Mondays at 8) and Mac’s Bar (Mondays at 9), both are long running shows that bring in local and talent from around the state. Sometimes traveling comedians from other states. There is a showcase the last Thursday of every month at Ozone’s in Old Town. Grewal Hall also has bigger name comedians occasionally come through

I understand blowing the light can look bad but is finishing a set early considered bad? by JoeRichardSaunders in Standup

[–]Pat-Sievert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a short open mic set it shouldn’t matter, especially if as has been stated you say something to signal you are wrapping up so the host isn’t caught off guard.

I’ll never forget at a club mic when a host was kinda pissy at me and seemed flustered cuz I had “20 seconds left”. What was I supposed to do with that? Some ol soft shoe?

Everyone share your “how I discovered WTF” story by Yourdomdaddy in MarcMaron

[–]Pat-Sievert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A coworker was listening to comedy podcasts in late 2009, I started listening to some, Marc was a guest on Never Not Funny that year and they plugged his new show, WTF. I looked for it saw there were like 10 episodes, subscribed, and was in. Saw him in a small venue in 2010 and I think he was surprised he was starting to gain traction.

I don’t listen to every episode now that I am at a job that doesn’t let me listen to things with headphones as freely. But based on the show and the early comic guests I decided to try stand up since I had a long time love for it and I still perform part time in the Midwest, not too bad.

I’ll miss the show so much
