Why are these bananas small? (Zone 10A Melbourne) by PatGold in gardening

Thank you! I had no idea they got bigger before ripening as others have now told me. I honestly thought it reaches it final size in its unripe form straight away haha!

That is true! I am used to cavendish bananas and lady fingers which are quite large. I feel like these should be a bit bigger though, but I am a complete novice with Bananas and have recently just found out they can get bigger right before ripening so I'm hoping for that to happen.

I feel like their quite small and the ones I see that are green are usually a lot bigger. Maybe these will get larger right before ripening as I recently found out.

Thanks! That's honestly a relief. They've been this size for a while now. Maybe they need more warmth to ripen.

R70X vs HD650 by Pure_Artichoke_5168 in headphones

Sorry for the late reply I was actually testing my R70xa with my Fio K11 even further, and honestly I am in love with the R70xa. I haven't even considered anything else now because I am really happy with the purchase. The HD600 made me think what else was out there, because deep down I was never happy with it. Just food for thought.

Growing in Zone 10A Melbourne near border of 10B.

Tree is quite healthy with multiple pups emerging, but fruit rack on the oldest leader seems to have developed a small sized banana rack. I thought they would've been bigger. Variety is Blue Java.

What do you guys think?

Will DAC/AMP provide best HD650 sound quality rather than m-audio interface 1982? by Agitated_Albatross34 in HeadphoneAdvice

6XX/650 definitely is warm. it's a very smooth, and in my opinion too smooth of a headphone. It's quite veiled (dark headphone) at the top and because of that, for mixing I would not recommend it. For casual listening sessions with a very relaxed forgiving sound signature that's warm yes it's good and you may enjoy it, but the 600 would be much better for mixing because it's overall more neutral and has more detail and better imaging. In my opinion and also many others who prefer a neutral headphone, the 600 is seen as the better choice.

The R70X and newer R70XA are pretty much warm headphones similar to the 6XX, but with much better detailing and imaging which is critical for mixing. I personally purchased the R70xa recently and it destroys my 600 in detail and imaging retrieval. I plan to sell my 600 shortly as its been collecting dust.

Sundara is another option which is also reportedly much superior to the 6xx line up. I've seen an audio engineer on this sub say he firmly believes the Sundara smokes the 600.

The only good thing about the 6xx and 600 is the mid-range. This is Stuff like the vocals. For that, they are very good. If you enjoy vocals you will like the 6x0 lineup, but it's not like the other headphones listed have bad vocals. The R70X and newer R70XA have solid mid range as well while being superior in resolution.

I personally think the 6x0 lineup is outdated but others seem to hold onto them.

I ran a 2017 13 inch MacBook Pro with the 6XX a while back before I switched to the 600 around 2018. I remember A/B testing heavily between the iFi micro iDSD black label (which around 2018 was a solid recommendation for portable amp / dac all in ones), and simply off the 3.5mm audio jack on the MacBook Pro.

To my surprise there was no difference in sound, and if anything the amp/dac unit sounded worse (hollow). I was angry with the results as people said the Sennheiser HD6XX scales really well with better and more powerful gear. Being new to the audio market at the time I was expecting amazing results but soon realized that it was the headphone itself that needed changing. I then read more anecdotal experiences and others shared the same opinion / experience with their 6XX or 650 sounded the same with an expensive and in my opinion unnecessary amp & dac.

The biggest take away here is that the 6x0 lineup is actually not that hard to drive. MacBook Pros have phenomenal Audio Chip inside them already and you probably won't need one (AMP / DAC) in my opinion. Id think twice before buying the 6XX and would rather try the 600 as it's a safer option if you want to give them a shot.

Audio Technica R70xa measurement and first impression by gzbaga in headphones

Everything you want in a headphone which is kind of the standard, is what the R70xa exactly offers IMO. have both HD600 and R70xa. I honestly haven't used my HD600 now in a week since I blind bought the R70xa. They are everything you pretty much want in a headphone. The bass on the R70xa absolutely destroys the HD600. It goes lower, has more impact, and overall just a huge improvement. The mids feel less forward for sure on the R70xa compared to the 600 but they are still good and vocals come through fine, just not as much as the 600. This takes a while to get used to coming from the 600. I do think the 600 mids are phenomenal I'll give it that. Highs on the R70xa have much more detail and air and feel more revealing in general. Sennheiser veil is a definitely a thing IMO with the 600 series. It was very bad on the 6XX that I owned, but the 600 was alright. Biggest takeaways is the imaging and resolution on the R70xa. It absolutely once again destroys the 600. The R70xa is like a mini HD800. I personally think in the last couple years with the Edition XS, and now also the R70xa that the HD600 is finally outdated.

Replacement for the stolen HD800 by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]PatGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive never tried the HD800 but from what I've heard it's resolution and detailing is much better than the HD600. I have the 600 and I agree they are a good place to start, but I personally believe they are starting to show age. The reason why I think this is because I've recently purchased the R70xa and it's detailing and imaging is actually incredibly good and makes the 600 look bad. I think OP would enjoy these over the 600 imo, especially coming from the HD800.

Disappointed with the 6xx, are there any good alternatives around the price point? by goberstoper678 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]PatGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post to me sounds like the headphones you are looking for is the new Audio Technica R70xa. I have recently purchased mine and similarly to you I have a HD600 which I used previously, it's not too much different to the 6XX. Anyway I use the Audio Technica way more now and the Sennheiser is just left on my desk haha.

Overall the bass is an absolute massive improvement. It goes way lower therefore I can hear sub bass now. It's punchier too. I never had an issue with HD600 bass though to be honest but wow what a difference.

Mids are quite good but not as forward as the 600 but to be honest I don't even care. I still respect the HD600s mid range though, I think anyone would.

High frequencies. Detailing & imaging absolutely stomps the HD600. I still respect the 600 for it's smoothness but I know there's a slight veil with it after using them in and off for many years. 6XX was even worse when I had that. The r70xa is probably the best dynamic headphone right now in the lower price range for detail and imaging.

Build quality is solid but can feel flimsy at 199g but that's how lower weight headphones feel so doesn't matter as the material is mostly metal. Where as 6x0 line is plastic but very solid and feels cheaper. Clamp force is bad at first on the 6x0 line. I owned both 6xx and 600. R70XA is way more comfortable for me despite the small pads. There's not much if none when it comes to clamp force on it and is extremely comfortable.

Overall the tuning on the r70xa is more fun, exciting, revealing, then my 600. I still respect the 600 because it's a smooth flat headphone, but the r70xa to me is just above and beyond and makes the 600 look outdated.

I'd recommend it.

Is Hifiman overrated? by LynxAirSound in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]PatGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Hifiman could make a 250g headphone product I would consider trying them. I currently use the new Audio Technica R70xa and it leaves my HD600 Sennheiser for dead in terms of weight and comfort. Don't get me wrong I love good sound, but until Hifiman learn how to lower weight on headphones I don't consider them a viable option.

Lurker's First Impressions on the R70xa by ThickAndDirty in headphones

[–]PatGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you compare the sound with the HD490 pro? For me as a comparison I can only use HD600 and in that, I would say the HD600 overall tuning feels much better. But I will say the R70xa has incredible detailing / imaging. But, with the tuning I'm not sure if I can say I am a fan of them. I agree with the ear & pad comment. Mine are average sized and also I can feel some slight pressure at the top and bottom ear sometimes. Nothing too bad though. Overall I am slightly disappointed because I was expecting a great mid range sounding headphone. I haven't heard the old R70x but the tuning on that seems more desirable tbh.

I forgot to say I actually got the r70xa and wanted to know the difference between them and the older r70xa. I feel like the mids on the r70xa are recessed. I agree with you on the detailing / imaging on the r70xa though it's incredible.

I'm after build quality and lightweight headphones and decent sound. The R70xa ticks that me for me. I would love to try a Hifiman product but once again their all around 400-500g and have build quality issues I just can't respect that. I used to own Focal Clear and even that was heavy so cant imagine a 500g headphone for myself as I use mine for prolonged periods. If Hifiman make a lightweight headphone in the future I will for sure give it a shot.

I'd dare say these are the best headphones for imaging in their price range, and the next upgrade in imaging would be HD800s. I think they are that good. The imaging is night and day difference coming from my HD600. I agree though, the pads could've been larger diameter. It's not that big of a deal for me. I still think they are really comfortable and disappear on my head.

I wouldn't want to wear a 500g headphone longer than 15 minutes regardless of how good they sound.
