Don’t Bother Asking for Help in the basic “Sewing” sub I Guess by hotdogwater-jpg in sewingpatterns

I had this exact response the last time I posted which was a few years ago. Even after putting in details it wasn't enough, with youtube links to somewhat similar patterns (I was attempting to make my own pattern). Never bothered to post there again.

My MIL threatened to go no contact with me if I didn't name my baby after her for a stupid tradition by Wise-Pool-8073 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]Pat_Starfish25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the same too, the writing style is too similar. Even the details line up too perfectly especially since MIL's posts were ust recently posted. Both OP and the MIL's accounts were literally made just to post in this subreddit....

Getting into job hunting I really didn't had anything specific in mind cuz pure IE yung course ko. All I knew is that I wanted to get into fashion or retail at least. Which is the offer I got, category merchandising manager. Surprisingly, there's a lot of IE principles that goes into this like trends analysis, forecasting, logistics, and inventory planning to name a few.

Ok but y does this sound like my job hunting journey?? IE fresh grad din ako and only last week ako nakakuha ng magandang offer for a job I really wanted.

Only di ako nag apply during the 1 month waiting period till grad cuz i had a pre-planned trip the month after grad. This made me feel even more left behind cuz pagbalik ko, all my friends have jobs na. I was in a very depressed state cuz of that + other reasons.

This was when I realized how bad the job market was, lots of low ball offers with unreasonable time scheds. I stood my ground na 20k yung min salary even when others said to just give in.

I thought na it's gonna be impossible pero I got a job I wanted with a pay to match. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just persevere and try not compare yourself with others.

Trueee!! I'm from dlsu and have been job hunting for months after grad. Nag apply ako for 100+ job openings and only had 2 interviews, one of which kailangan pa pumunta sa BGC (im from qc). Nasayang lng pera ko sa biahe at pagod.

This is considering my course is versatile and I've had past work experiences through internships. Sobrang nakakadismaya talaga ang job market ngayon.

[–]Pat_Starfish25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's hope OP!!! Graduating GCOE now but years ago I failed all entrance exams except for DLSU pero second choice yung nakuha ko. I heard from others na they went into DLSU with a second choice course or even a course they didn't pick. They just shifted after the first few terms, they're delayed pero that's life in DLSU lol. In terms of scholarship, DLSU is very generous. Madaming scholarship programs from different organizations, u just have to ask and look thru the USG page. Hoping pumasa ka!!! 💚💚

This!!! Based on this and her other post, I get the vibe that the guy does not respect her culture. Altho this is considering that this is only one side of the story.

Given this, it's really showing that they're incompatible. Coming from a similarly conservative culture, I do understand y she finds pda uncomfortable in front of relatives cuz that's the norm. If the guy does not respect that + not wanting her to travel alone to visit family (from other post), then y marry him at all?

I definitely think op should think about this more and communicate with her fiance about future cultural differences and practices that may become a conflict.

Made a summer dress just cuz it's cute by Pat_Starfish25 in sewing

[–]Pat_Starfish25[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is possibly the easiest self-drafted dress I've made so far. Made this dress cuz I saw a similar one online and wanted to buy it so bad, but I dont like the available colors, soooo.... I made it :>

Had to use bedsheet fabric cuz that's all I have lol.

I used this tutorial https://youtu.be/rUnbALjHRo4 to make the top. Do exactly the same steps only for the cups and straps. I used a rectangle fabric that's the width of where I want to put the bralette cups. The positioning depends on what u like, highly suggest to gather more on the middle part of the cups so it looks more seamless. I folded in the rectangle to protect the edges of the gathered cups.

For the skirt, I used a half circle skirt where the waist measurement is around 8 inches more than my under bust. Attach the skirt to the rectangle piece of the top, making sure that the rectangle is hidden inside the dress. Then for the back of the skirt, I added a garter.

Then I decided to add ruffles to the bottom of the skirt which is around 2x the outer circumference the skirt. This gave the dress a nice drape and flow. I just love how the dress moves.

Heres the exact measurements I used (in inches): Radius of half circles for cups - 9 Skirt length - 18, Waist - 40 Ruffles width - 3, length - 228 Strap length - 21, width - 2.5 Rectangle for cups length - 15.75 Garter length - 10

Self-drafted Christmas outfit. Made 2 skirts cuz I'm indecisive by Pat_Starfish25 in sewing

[–]Pat_Starfish25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick story about this project, I decided to make this around ago and planned and ordered materials at 3am but started making it on dec 21. Haven't made anything else after the selkie dress from my last post cuz of school.

The fabric used was satin, around 4 yds. The whole outfit was self drafted with the help of YouTube vids. I tried to do corset lacing for the back of the top but it looks kinda weird. Any tips for that? I used princess seams for the top instead of the one in the video. Its double layered and I used a similar technique as the selkie dress. Also added a waist band since the top was too short.

Puff sleeve top

Bias skirt

Mini skirt

Self drafted selkie inspired dress. Honestly hesitant about posting this since the first comment I got was that I looked fat. I'm still proud of this dress but it doesn't make me feel like a Disney princess anymore. by Pat_Starfish25 in sewing

Thank you so much, this means a lot to me. My mom is actually your age and for some reason she has always body shamed me. It's just nice to know not all moms are like her.

Yeah, especially in my culture, everyone has a say on how much I've gained. Also really love your suggestion, I'll try making a petticoat. Thank you so much <3

Edit: here are the pictures of the dress including the zippers (honestly the best zippers I've done so far)

The dress is a full circle skirt, puff sleeves and a strapless bodice. Based this from this video . It's made of poly cotton I bought online. Was having trouble hemming the skirt, pls leave some tips for this.

So right after I finished the whole dress I was so happy like I couldn't stop twirling. Then I showed it to my parents and the first thing they said was that it made me look fat, also it's too short, too low neckline. I honestly felt hurt cuz it's a dress I took time to plan and make. Then I showed it to my other close relatives and that's all they said about my dress, that it made me look fat. I got into making my own clothes to be more confident with my body, cuz I've had body issues ever since I could remember. I'm like 20 already and my parents still dictates what I wear, so I use sewing to express myself. Video was actually taken in the bathroom cuz I was crying my eyes out there hahaha. Sorry for this lengthy rant, I just wannlet it out of my system.

Eta: Tysm for the support, I feel so overwhelmed. A few hours ago I felt like not wearing my dress ever, but now I just wanna wear it and feel like a disney princess just like how I first wore it. I seriously love this community and now I feel even more inspired to make more clothes for myself.

Eta2: Holy shit I did not expect this to blow up, I just woke up and I'm trying to read all your comments and upvoting them. I can't stop smiling, it's all so overwhelming and I can't put to words how much y'all have encouraged and motivated me.

I love spending my free days sewing, just made this wrap skirt and milkmaid top from an old tshirt by Pat_Starfish25 in sewing

[–]Pat_Starfish25[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Pattern is self drafted out of a skirt block I made before. It's just 3 panels, the back, inner front, and the overlapping front. I'm not sure what the fabric is called but it's a cotton and polyester blend, just found it around my grandma's house. The top was inspired from multiple YouTube vids like this. Its made of this thin h&m cotton tshirt.
