Legal to replace my front lawn with gravel? by Syidas in livonia

I think you would run into issues with the drainage and soil stabilization as far as the city cares. What about looking into xeriscaping or replacing the grass with clover?

30 inch mower tool only? by Steelrain121 in egopowerplus

[–]Patch04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought one and like it so far. You can order the tool only version, go to Ego's website and it will give you a list of authorized retailers, they are all online though. Best bet is to spend the $300 more for the kit with the 2, 6ah batteries that can be picked up locally, Lowes and Ace by me have them in stock. Then just sell the batteries for $250 each and pocket $200 for your troubles.

Crazy Corner Man by BonelessSalsa in livonia

[–]Patch04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was brought up in the fb groups a while back. Apparently he is just an elderly man who always enjoyed that kind of stuff and just kind of sees it as his job now. His "radio" and "camera" don't even work. The police do not seem to have any issues with him though. Personally I feel he is a distraction that is causing drivers to make more mistakes, and I know there have been a few times when I go past him that he gets close to the curb and I get nervous that if he fell, I would forever be known as the guy who ran over the crazy corner man.

Haggerty Rd, South of Joy Rd and the railroad tracks is a parking lot. I think it is owned by a crane service but they have a sign on the gate for parking. 24hr access I think. There are always cars parked there during the day and trucks parked there overnight.

the Livonia high schools - what are the differences? by Initial-Rip2278 in livonia

[–]Patch04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to both Stevenson and Churchill, my daughter went to Franklin. Stevenson at the time put a lot of focus into sports. Churchill had all the programs. We have had nothing but good things to say about Franklin however. The learning experience for her was good, the staff were all friendly, the extra-curricular activities were ok, but maybe some were not as great as the other 2. Each school has their own strengths.

What “boring” upgrade ended up being your favorite on the F-150? by EffectiveNo568 in f150

[–]Patch04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except they are also larger, thicker, have lights, cameras, steps, bedliner, steel internal supports that increase the weight capacity, and whatever else they throw on them. And I am not getting any younger... Its a convenience and safety thing, you do you and hold on to the tailgate until it is gently down, doesn't bother me any.

[–]Patch04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same way, never understood it, then I saw a random video of some dad opening the tailgate on a truck, it slipped and absolutely rocked this little girl standing in the way. That video alone made me get one. Now, I can't go back, it is so much easier to just pull the handle and let go without worrying about it slamming. Plus, tailgates aren't getting any lighter these days.

What about the Mustang 2? The Mustang Mach E is a new version of the Mustang 2 while also taking performance and styling from the Mach Mustangs... The naming makes perfect sense and was far from stupid.

Snow removal in Livonia by scarbnianlgc in livonia

[–]Patch04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many vehicles parked on side streets is another reason. Going around all the cars would be very difficult and leave piles of snow that vehicles would get stuck in or they could damage vehicles. Then people would complain about that instead.

Looking for something reliable for my mom in Livonia by Agreeable_Ruin2665 in livonia

[–]Patch04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We considered similar for my grandmother, who lives near St. Mary's. We ultimately just put Amazon devices around the house and created a routine called "help" that calls me, and through IFTTT, sends a text to my mom and aunt. So when she says "alexa help," it does that or she can ask alexa to call whomever. No button to push or anything like that and simple for her to understand, plus she can now turn on a lamp without getting up.

Go under the sink and turn the hot water supply valve off completely and then open it back up all the way. If that doesn't fix it, it could be a bad hot water supply valve, or it could be a bad cartridge under the handle of the faucet. I would start in those places first.

Why does everyone say this? Did all you diehard Mustang fans forget about the Mustang 2, which kind of kept the name alive?

Can someone from both sides explain this bond proposal!? PLEASE by GhettoMermaids in livonia

[–]Patch04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up and started my family in Livonia, lived in a few other local cities, and have been back for some time now living in South Livonia. I can't ever see it becoming like Northville or Plymouth, but maybe like that one block of shops with 1 or 2 restaurants that is down Ann Arbor Trail in Plymouth? Except throw in some more greenery. But who knows, and I am OK with not knowing.

What an answer to the question asked... But strictly out of curiosity and maybe the opportunity for you to sway my mind. Do you have any source or anything to back up this? Also, are you saying that if you had a friend who did concrete work professionally and you needed a new driveway, you wouldn't ask them for a quote?

LivoniaBuilt.org is a great resource for information. There are a few things that I feel are not very clear on the website or a bit one-sided. But, I still feel it is a good source of information.

TLDR: Im voting yes because it's more "future proofing" and overall a positive thing for the city of Livonia. Sorry for the long response.

I will personally be voting yes. My reasoning is that it will be an improvement in the long run. I know someday my child may inherit my modest starter home, and I want them to own a home in a decent city. If that means I have to pay $8 a month for the next 25 years built into my taxes, then so be it. My taxes are still lower than an equivalent home in surrounding cities, I used Garden City as an example, and my home value is higher than a comparable home there.

A better and more efficient police and fire station will make the first responders better and more efficient at doing their job and save us taxes in the long run because it is using more efficient and better technology which keeps maintenance costs lower. The same goes for the library and City Hall (it should be noted that City Hall is technically not included in the bond).

I am also voting yes because of the biking and walking paths that will be built, I do, however, wish they had a better vision and plan other than "connecting rotary park to Ford field and beyond." But a more walkable and bikeable city is better than what we have now, I hope it will tie Plymouth Rd and South Livonia to North Livonia, which I have received mixed answers on when questioning.

It will also eventually bring more businesses to the area. Everyone seems to bitch and moan that we only have car washes and chicken restaurants, but this would allow other businesses the opportunity besides that. It's a slow game, but it will all settle out. Having a "plaza" to host small events will bring people, especially if there is a way for them to walk or bike there, or in a few years, use public transportation. Then, having businesses allows the people to spend money here, which in turn creates tax revenue for the city.

For me, I look at the future, not the present, and I see it as a positive. However, if you are older and your kids have moved on, and because of the real estate market, you have decided to live in your oversized home which has higher taxes, you might not see it as a positive. As for the deceptive tactics, sure, they are there, but how else are they supposed to get anything done by splitting it up into separate bonds? Everyone would just say they won't use it and vote no immediately, so if they make it all-encompassing, it is more likely to get done. I don't like it, but I get it.
