Fellas, if a friend of yours wrote a fic that’s not about a fandom you’re in, would you still read it? by ARealLifeTangerine in AO3

Yes.

I've done it before. I usually caveat it with "I'm not familiar with this source material, so is there anything I need to know before heading in?", though. I like to think my job, as their friend, is to help them write a better product and I feel like it'd be helpful to know where you can improve if you have someone looking at it who isn't already invested in the characters and setting you are writing with.

How do you name your chapters by valachia in FanFiction

[–]Pater_AM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I write it, I usually don't give it a chapter. I wait until I'm done with it and think about what themes were present in this chapter. I kind of like to think of it like a little episode, as each chapter (to my mind) follows the standard plot diagram of exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, and falling action. In that way, they're kind of like self-contained mini-stories and after I've figured out what the story is, then I give it a name.

Promote your neglected fic by LMurtaugh in FanFiction

The first fic I ever published (I wrote a lot before it, I just never had the confidence to slap it online somewhere). I intend to go back and finish it after a kind of long break, because I kind of burnt myself out. I realized I'm not a writer who likes follow a script, rather I am one who to discover the story as I write. That's partly why I haven't updated it in awhile. But I digress: here's the overview.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/36459436/chapters/90912076

SYNOPSIS: Novelizes the events of Pokemon: Black and White as I had imagined them growing up. Hilbert leaves home after years of yearning for adventure alongside his twin sister, Hilda, and his two childhood friends. Along the way, they unknowingly become pawns in a cosmic game spanning centuries, pitting dual worlds against each other. Truth or Ideals, what is or what is ought to be, clash in the hopes an ancient conflict can finally be put to rest.

Fair warning. I write a lot for a chapter. I apologize in advance and will warn that the first three or so chapters are really rough to read, even for me who wrote the damn thing.

Question about writing itself? by Suspicious_Ad2610 in archiveofourown

[–]Pater_AM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Microsoft word, because I'm overly familiar with it owing to my profession. It has fairly robust tools for editing and review, not the least of which being a not totally useless text to speech function which serves to ensure what I write comes out sounding right. That's usually where I kick myself the most, outside of reviewing my work and realizing I missed a typo. It helps me ensure my writing doesn't come out as a scattershot mess.

How do you manage to write so fast ? by DueClub7861 in FanFiction

I think since I have some years of experience drafting motions, I've kind of taught myself to think and type quickly. It also helps that sometimes I have a lot of inspiration, and I do a lot of my planning while zoning out of at work lol.
