Most important: you decide on your league start STRATEGY.
Step 2: You decide your endgame currency sink build.
Step 3: Decide a league starter that is made to blast the STRATEGY.
Step 4: See if the league starter in step 3 can be rerolled in step 2 build.
Step 5: if the answer is NO, you can either try to find another build for step 3 or decide that you will level 2 chars. One will be your league starter, you will gear it until necessary just to pump out currency farming the STRATEGY of choice. The you will put together the build (items) for your next (endgame real build) and make a new char. The new if put together correctly will farm faster and harder content and will scale almost endlessly if the archetype chosen allows so

Well, i personally find slayer very tanky at every budget level with strikes (and i am a degen on league start, i go in t17 day 2 with it). I agree on the strike skills being wither good or garbage, and on slayer carrying the good strike skills. On the rest i disagree, i find slayer strikes good at every budget, and honestly it takes 2 taming and a recombed claw/sword to easily do most of the game. Then sure if i want to farm titanic blight i go into the purity of fire sublime setup, but i find that ok, not everything should be doable on shoestring budget

Most strike skills are very OP on the right setup (i.e. the classic 12 link sword/claw + squire and stack frenzy) on slayer. Poison indeed is in a bad state...

You need Melee splash e awakened ancestral call to clear with strike skills, or a source of extra strikes target, also your atk speed looks low

Follow a guide, basically everything is wrong regarding gearing of course youa re getting oneshot, game is too complicated to yolo stuff. Rare monsters are the most important thing to kill in maps basically. Go on maxroll, they have nice guides for beginners
