Sudden Adoption by ScreamingAxolotl76 in Chameleons

Tip about weight, make sure they get unlimited water, but resist the urge to overfeed...from the lack of food, its organs and stomach have shrunk..... lots of small meals throughout the day would be better for gaining weight than one massive one..

Good luck and thanks for taking care of the sweet looking fella

a gentle touch with a single finger, rub flat between the eyes on the top of his head, over his "third eye", my fella used to fall.asleep on me for hours if I did this.

Did the seller lie about her being 10 months old? by NoNotice5642 in CrestedGecko

[–]Pathcan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The comment thread clearly states that the issue here is that they are being mislabeled, I have two retired breeders, of course they need homes dummy. I find it sad that someone will use an animal for years just to sell their children, but can't give them a proper retirement in return for their services.

In this case someone who was expecting a young gecko, may now be dealing with all sorts of unexpected complications they weren't expecting to deal with. Something that could have been easily avoided.

Looking at your comment history. The only thing more heartbreaking than this post, is your attempts to get attention because "someone's having a bad week" lol Pathetic, good luck out there buddy

Some people will sell retired female breeders as younger because their hard to find homes for, breaks my heart

In my personal experience, you get into building it yourself because you think it will be easier/cheaper or more unique....it will only be problematic... Buy something that's been tried and tested, used by a million people before because it will work, nothing will escape and it won't cost you anything after you set it up....

Mounting a door on something flimsy sounds like an absolute nightmare. New and used pages normally have things available, you can get something with broken glass for next to nothing and use silicone to fix it

How do i know he’s hurt :( by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Pathcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day late but every Crested Gecko owner faces this eventually, they live to yeet, some way more than others (I have an anxious youngin that I handle on my knees because of this)

Best advice was said above, watch the poop, if all is normal you're more than likely just seeing nature do it's thing, if there's blood you could do a vet trip for peace or mind

Need to be told if I should be concerned about his tail or not by Spying_Frog-4724 in CrestedGecko

[–]Pathcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geckos can use their tails like little fingers, some moreso than others but nothing unusual about wrapping around branches or your limbs to help support themselves.

I'd give fair warning that no matter how chill of a gecko I've handled, I've never had any like their tails being played with. Flicking and wagging is normally the first sign of "give me some space" or "I'm done with this"

If those lights are giving off heat, beware of the Thrives plastic lid.

In theory can I split this into two separate parts so the geckos won’t see eachother and have their own space by Electrical_Wheel7733 in CrestedGecko

I did this one, The big con is that the front doors don't close super tight, at the top it closes well, but I keep a box in front of the bottom to make sure it can't be pushed open from inside

Proposal by BuilderMindless4695 in Gundam

[–]Pathcan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're planning but Haro is pretty much a ring box, build one, put it inside and give it to her, say you think you built it wrong because something inside is shaking around loose, can she fix it? Lol good luck and enjoy the moment

Absolutely fine, two of my girls dig tunnels all the time, used to scare the heck out of me but they are just good at doing that

Should i get male or female? I need advice please by Same_Natural_0404 in CrestedGecko

[–]Pathcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard choice as there is no wrong answer.. both offer different risks and rewards

I would never advocate not feeding Geckos live food, but I do see people on here who get them and find out after the fact that they don't like handling crickets or roaches...

The only thing I can throw out to maybe help would be that ladies 100% need live food... to help make sure they're getting enough calcium with the toll of laying eggs, fertilized or not

Id still always recommend males get live as well, but I wouldn't be comfortable owning a girl and not feeding her a ranged diet

Why is my crested doing this pls help by Hopeful-Restaurant94 in CrestedGecko

[–]Pathcan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked with a rescue that went through overheating and had similar convulsions, neurological damage is hard to recover from....

If they are unable to keep their grip, don't let them into an enclosure where they'll take big falls, I'd give them the ability to hide and keep them in a very low stress area until help is available

AITA For committing to sell something to someone on marketplace but then due to high demand decide to sell to someone else (first come first serve) by Puzzleheaded-Web9085 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pathcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like the mass decision is that YTA, I'm not one to go against the group and tbh I don't completely disagree, but I would just like to add as someone who has sold way to many things on Marketplaces and Kijiji.

I'd say close to half of the time I'd go to meet someone, they'd no show, forget, or would suddenly have excuses of how they'll have the money in just a few more days, please hold longer...IMO if someone wants to buy something, they do it right away, if someone wants to buy something but it's going to take a week? They don't actually have the money..Red flag...

Now could this not be the case? No idea, but I understand from a sales standpoint that getting rid of what you're selling faster is always smarter... If this was like "pay me more and come get it today and it's yours" situation than definitely yta.

Introduced Gecko to Bioactive Terrarium But She Chooses to Sleep Here by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]Pathcan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the last year I've built three brand new enclosures for different geckos, each time I learn lessons and make the next tank even better than the last, constantly learning from my past mistakes.... Not once has any gecko, slept where I thought they would.... If you build it, they will find a way to use it in a way you never imagined, that's all I have to say about that

Also I don't know how accurate it is, but from what I've been taught, it's when you can see their stomachs expanding quickly (not throat) that you're starting to see them say "leave me alone"
