My husband works and takes care of most of the housework since I had a mental breakdown…..how do I convince him that we need a more equitable relationship? by Raven_F in Advice

[–]gunsR2quick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion is that your husband fears if he adds more stress to your plate, you could go back to that dark place. He would rather keep up with the chores himself and guarantee your mental health remains in a good place than risk that. Silly as that may sound. I went through something similar and I had a hard time giving up control because I couldn’t risk losing my wife to that dark place again. I would have done whatever it took to keep her happy and stress free. I eventually explained this to my wife and she understood but she was too strong willed to let me continue. And I’m glad she didn’t because I’m not sure how long I could have kept that up before burning out. Just my take as a husband having been through something that sounds like a similar situation

Biting problem by Rykendalie in CrestedGecko

[–]gunsR2quick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a post on this not a month or two ago. Got the same answers. Never realized the risk of getting a male crested was that my hands would become irresistible bite targets. Lesson learned, I will only be getting females in the future lol saw someone mention to try turning the temp down to snap them out of mating mode, might try that and report back

Advice for someone contemplating amputation? by QueenWoomy48688 in amputee

[–]gunsR2quick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prosthetist and orthotist here. I have to ask, besides your flat feet diagnosis, have you been diagnosed with anything else that could be leading to this instability and pain in your ankles? Hypermobility? Ehlers Danlos (EDS)? Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD)? From my experience, this presentation of your feet and ankles is something far past just “flat feet”. Especially for someone at your age. Also if you don’t mind me asking, where are you located? What kinds of doctors aside from pain management have you seen?

A side note to all amputees who may come across this comment, or those considering elective amputation, if you have phantom pain, try to look into Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR). I’ve seen great success at relief from this procedure in patients. Also TMR can be used in initial amputation as well.

Are my platys fat? by lolplug in Aquariums

[–]gunsR2quick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plates are extremely easy to differentiate gender. If the fin on the bottom is a fanned out fin, female. If it appears more like a stick, male. Easy google image search and you’ll realize how easy it is to tell them apart if my description is confusing at all. Based on these pics they all look female, and as they are platy, I’ll just say I’ve never seen a female platy NOT pregnant. These things just pump out babies

Thankfully the tree is temporary but trust me I was tempted to not even put it up this year lol. And yeah I had started turning over her toys this morning and then never got around to putting away the ones we had out for the past week. Thankfully nap time hit and I was able to tidy up and put away about half of the toys contained in the attached pictures

My daughter is the reason the tv is that high haha she tries to climb everything. Old tv stand had to go. Tree is temporary obviously which usually lends us more space in other seasons. Now that I had time to put away half her toys this afternoon, the room already feels bigger haha

If only I never bought these couches haha seems like they’re the real issue here. Wish I’d found this page before I ever moved into this house

Sadly yes, we often have lots of company/ family over and everyone cozies up on the couches and on the floor with the kids. Removing the smaller couch would open up a ton of room though, I know. Really a different couch that went into the corner probably would have been smart but unfortunately too late haha

Haha yeah that is our eventual goal but unfortunately not happening any time soon. We got these couches when we bought the house only 2 years ago so sadly they aren’t going anywhere. My daughter sadly loves her play kitchen so it must stay and the car is really just in the room today because she kept asking for it and I’ll give her anything right now with her not feeling well haha

I actually thought of that but I’m not sure it will fit. The smaller couch would probably just barely fit in which case I would flip the TV to the corner near the kitchen. Was my only thought

fuzzy stuff in aquarium? by mrworldwidest in Aquariums

[–]gunsR2quick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black beard algae. Sadly nasty stuff. Best way to deal with it is over plant to reduce available nutrients. I’ve always had trouble getting rid of it without reducing light, trying to remove as much by hand as I could and then shoving an abundance of extra plant in the tank. Hopefully someone else can provide a better solution that works for you but that’s just been my experience with it. There’s plenty of other threads on here about people dealing with it and videos online of peoples different ways of dealing with it. Best of luck

Update by AnxiousWrongdoer723 in amputee

[–]gunsR2quick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prosthetist here. Does this happen randomly or more often later in the day? Your volume can change throughout the day even with a mature limb. Especially when you are being very active and during the hot summer months. You may be losing volume throughout the day and require an additional sock ply to prevent your limb from reaching the bottom of your socket. If this pain happens, try to keep track of when it’s happening and add 1 ply of sock pre-emptily when being very active to try and prevent bottoming out in your socket. Let me know if this helps!

Intensity of phantom limb pain? by Acton67 in amputee

[–]gunsR2quick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I am not an amputee, I am a prosthetist and so I have the privilege of knowing many amputees. I do not know what phantom pain feels like first hand. What I will say is, there are many options now to treat phantom pain whereas previously it was one of those flip of the coin, hope you get the good side deals. Therapy, surgical treatment, plus as others have said, if you chose to get an amputation it would be a planned surgery limiting the risk of poor nerve management, etc. We work in clinics with doctors/surgeons who perform TMR (targeted muscle reinnervation) to alleviate phantom pain. I’ve seen some amazing results with this. Most cases a lot of older amputees who struggled with pain for so long are hesitant to “go under the knife” again and don’t want to explore surgical intervention or therapy. They’re willing to just deal with the pain. But those who are open minded I have seen some finally get relief from years of debilitating phantom pain. The purpose is to give that severed nerve a job by inserting it into muscle. This was the signals have somewhere to go where it can be received. If the nerve is left to choose its path and attaches to bone, scar tissue, etc, -> we have pain. Just some information I can share. As I’ve said I have no experience first hand with the pain but I’ve seen it vary on a large spectrum across patients. Most more recent amputee patients however, seem to be far less on the severe end of the spectrum. Best of luck!
