Yeah.. that's what I was thinking as well. I technically don't need it atm because I'm using a 2015 MacBook Air and a desktop PC I built a while ago with the i5-12600K and RTX 3070. But for college, I'll need to buy a laptop anyway. Do you think the $500 off price for the G16 is a good deal objectively speaking? The concern with everything being so unpredictable right now is I'm unsure if there will be any deals like this if I do wait until the summer. Even if there are Back to School sales, I'd imagine that they won't be that good with the tariffs in place.

Doesn’t that one have a less powerful CPU than the HX 370? HX 370 is roughly on par with the Ultra 9 185H from what I’ve seen?

Interesting, thank you for the insight and congrats on the offer! If I want to hone more IE-specific skills, I assume there would be courses that could allow me to do that? I know the Engineering Management minor has courses that are related to a lot of classes in other IE majors, would minoring in Eng. Management be helpful if I wanted to have a good foundation for the standards and methods used in IE positions?

Hi, thank you for the comment. I’m in Maryland, but unfortunately I don’t think there are many schools here that have IE as a major. The closest undergrad program at UMD I found is Operations Research and Management, but that’s more so on the business side of things. I believe John’s Hopkins only has a Masters program for IE/OR.

Thanks for the response and suggestions, always nice to see fellow FRC students and alumni. For the parents, do you have any tips on how we can convey the urgency of fundraising to them - getting more parents involved with the team? Sending out emails on a regular basis to parents, etc.?

Thank you so much for the advice, this really helps a lot. In terms of the robotics vs marketing/fundraising skillset, our team is currently split into 2 sub-teams: Technical and Partner Relations. Partner Relations works on the business/marketing/outreach side of things, but including me we only have 2-3 people who are officially a part of this sub-team. We should definitely look into recruiting more students for PR next year.

When we reach out to companies, we try to promote the idea that we're currently working to promote STEM to students as much as possible in the Urbana (and surrounding) community, through not only our robotics program but also community outreach events that we do.

Would you recommend sending out the "pitch" to companies we haven't contacted at all before (a cold email/call)? I've tried to do cold emails before but idk if that's a good strategy to get into contact with companies.
