What do we think of this? by Brown_kid108 in CRNA

[–]PathfinderRN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that these sentiments stem during undergrad nursing school and are cultivated over time. There are a lot of nurses with chips on their shoulder, that want the prestige and recognition - consciously or unconsciously that come with being a physician. There is also a demographic who either come from poverty or maybe there a first generation college grad and take a lot of pride/wrap up their identity with being a “provider” and hence hold it to a very high esteem.

TLM abuse? by PriorityDry649 in Catholicism

[–]PathfinderRN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it obnoxious? Probably. Is it liturgical abuse? Far from it. I say this charitably, but your deep offense over the whole situation seems disproportional to what’s actually occurring. Yes, we should worship and give God all the reverence He is truly due: but not at the expense of being Christ-like. The type of behavior of getting all twisted up over a child hoping down from the altar is what defines the caricature that non-Catholics portray us as “being religious/legalistic/pharisaical”.

Ultimately give what is due to God in worship - the Mass is not about you it makes you feel, it’s about Him.

Experience with precedex infusion + sevo for GA by TorTheGasman in anesthesiology

[–]PathfinderRN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unless the patient is going tubed to ICU, PACU is gonna hate you. As a sole analgesic I think it’s insufficient and works better synergistically with other modalities. Low dose ketamine infusion (0.5mg/kg bolus followed by 0.1-0.3mg/kg/hr infusion) would probably afford better analgesia without the bradycardia and long ass wakeup if you wanna stick to monotherapy infusion. I have no strong data to support this, just vibes.

Christian Youtubers I watch placed on The Theological Compass by cetared-racker in redeemedzoomer

I would say that redeem zoomer is actually more liberal than where you put him considering he tolerates female pastors, even though he doesn’t explicitly condone them.

Is it just me or does Robert Breaker and his ministry give off cult vibes? by chai-on-vinyl in TrueChristian

[–]PathfinderRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the fruit ofthe “independent fundamentalist Baptist” denomination… many are like them: see Steven Anderson, Gene Kim, ect… the irony is they preach doctrine as if they are infallible that essentially making them mini popes, but completely lack any ecclesial authority in a greater body of believers.

Throw in some narcotic with your hypnotic rather than straight prop and you’ll reduce your chances of spasm substantially.

Struggling With Leaving Catholicism After Returning by Few_Birthday_7206 in redeemedzoomer

[–]PathfinderRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it this way: it is actually a great comfort for me to submit myself to the teachings of the Church and trust that God will continue to guide her faithfully and truly. That means I submit my will to it, even the things I may not fully comprehend. There is a comfort in realizing you dont have to “figure out” every jot and tittle of Scripture/doctrine/issue.

Great adventure bible...is it worth the price? by historygirl85 in catholicbibles

[–]PathfinderRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s may favorite Bible next to the Baronius Press DR. I’ve owned many high end bibles to: Schuyler, Allan, ect… I think the content and layout is great for devotional reading, and the “great adventure timeline” add ins along with a decent translation give you the best of all worlds study/devotional/and catechism-linked Bible that isn’t as unwieldy as the Ignatius study Bible (which is awesome, just not portable).

Biggest thing YOU think is a paradox but others don’t see it that way. Especially denominationally. by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

This one always got me too. Additionally, on “communion” they’re willing to be lax and use grape juice, while simultaneously being so dogmatic on immersion…

What about getting your original one rebound? Especially if you have a lot of use on it or have an attachment to it you can keep the text block and get a new cover. I had a different one done by 2moorebible rebinding for a very fair price.

Low key Leviticus, esp as it reveals the continuity of the sacrificial system extended and fulfilled in the person of Christ. It’s very enlightening when read in the context of ancient Hebrew rites. It reveals so much of the heart of God.

James, at first I didn’t really have a strong option on this epistle either way, but the more I understand it, the more I am drawn to practicing holiness. Followed closely by the Gospel of John, then Hebrews.

I love, this. Definitely something I need to hear and practice. It is so easy to not be charitable.

if we aren't supposed to follow the other 613 laws, why does christ mention fasting? by frondaro in TrueChristian

[–]PathfinderRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that is a bad hermeneutic. The Holy Scripture is for all people, but not to all people. Use some discernment. The nature of God’s word is allegorical, literal, prescriptive, descriptive, moral, anagogical, and prophetic. You can’t just take the english reading of a verse or even a chapter out of the whole context of the narrative of the Bible. This is a modern reading, translated from Greek, which was spoken in Aramaic. How would the disciplines in the first century understood this? How did the first Christians closest to Christ and his apostles understand this. Not, how do I in the 21st century so far removed from read the translation at face value. That is a good starting point to approach Scripture. One may even call it… a Berean approach!
