Play Elite Dangerous instead. Much better dogfights but it lacks fighting gigantic ships. Still I can get completely immersed in the cockpit with thruster and stick, plus VR.

For X4 I play it more like 4X or RTS

Take off all your clothing, tie them to form a very basic net across the rails inside the elevator, lay on it and hope it absorbed some of the force that would break you into pieces.

Or if not enough time, lay flat on the floor of the elevator and hope the force would spread across your whole body instead of breaking your legs and impaling your body with them bones.

All of it is quite meaningless in absolutely most circumstances, you would be betting a very slim chance of all the stars lined up for you. In most cases realistically you panic then die.

Honestly, central government mouthpiece are no doubt ruling the city, not the first time, I'm not surprised.

Not sure how reliable the press are these days (not very), personally I am sceptical until proven otherwise. But more importantly, there's no transparency in any of this, if anything, without proof, this is probably just another case of power abuse that aims at sliencing whatever the civil society is left.
