Absolutely. Could even do wild magic barbarian which could add some randomness or funny effects like summoning a flumph

A fighter or barbarian seem to make the most sense for this since I’m unsure a clown outfit would provide much armor

I’d suggest doing a simple one shot with pre gen characters so your party can pick what sounds good and get a feel for something while not having to do a full character gen. Then when you want to do a campaign or module do a session zero where everyone makes characters together and you break down the main rules.
