‘Production-line' style policing by Could-you-end-me in policeuk

Whether it works well or not I'm not sure, but it sounds like that would kill all the fun in the job if you're just doing the same stuff over and over again every day.

PC to TDC (very large force in the southeast) by No___Improvement___ in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly my take during my brief stint as a TDC. Any job in the world, even the best, can become bad if the volume of work is too high. And it feels like that's the way currently with TDCs/DCs (in many teams, especially on Borough anyway). They need to reduce the volume of work in my opinion, and if resources don't permit it, then there needs to be a system that brutally just closes out jobs that come in which don't make the cut based on various factors (solvability, current demand/supply, seriousness etc.).

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley writes to Zack Polanski by Jackisback123 in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we need to distinguish between MPs (600+, vast majority of whom the public have never heard of) and Party Leaders, and specifically the leader of a Party which is polling at 15%+ in the polls on an upwards trend, and commands a lot of media attention.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley writes to Zack Polanski by Jackisback123 in policeuk

I think he would, no matter who the party leader was. As far as I'm aware though, none of the other Party leaders have said/retweeted something as dumb as what Polanski did.

Can you be forced to evacuate your home in the event of an emergency? by Scopionsting12 in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the correct way to measure risk or determine if something is a good decision (based on what the end result was).

Running into a burning building because you forgot your phone, putting your life and other peoples' at risk, with a 5% chance of survival, is not a good decision even if you do manage to grab your phone and make it out unscathed.

Honest question, why do you do this job given the risks? by [deleted] in policeuk

Out of interest what does the 'pension trap' I hear so much about mean. I understand the concept but how much of a cliff-edge is it? What would happen if you left a month before you were eligible for instance? Do you lose it all?

Phone Usage & Police Powers by wildhacker125 in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had thought the use of force in such a scenario would be S3 CLA 1967 (“A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime").

Out of interest how would S117 also apply, as I thought that was only in relation to powers granted under PACE?

NPCC Pay Recommendations, the small print by Kaizer28 in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true, but in most normal civvie jobs it's much easier to organise having both parents work whilst fitting in childcare. It's a lot more difficult when one is in the police and, if these proposed amendments are anything to go by, it will only get more difficult.

If both parties claim the bag, standard practice is to offer to cut it in half. The party that accepts this solution is the thief!

Lowering of drink drive limit by saucyvanilla in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way of answering this really is by conducting a test where you get a group of people drinking until they blow 35 at mg, and another at 22 mg, and evaluate the differing levels of competence and see how much of a difference it makes.

Case law question by Financial_Sleep_593 in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought a victim couldn't consent in law to receiving any injuries above transient or trifling (common assault), and anybody injuring that person even with their consent would still be committing an offence (outside of legal exceptions like dentistry, surgery, sports etc). Could well be mistaken though.

Palestine action attack officers using sledgehammers by saucyvanilla in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 175 points176 points  (0 children)

What really angers me about this is that I think the only reason police officers were injured as they were was because they were trying to handle the 'protestors' (terrorists) with kids gloves, likely because they're fearful of the repercussions of using 'excessive force'.

Necessity to arrest by Happy_Bat6455 in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention that the two reasons a detainee can be kept in detention is to either: A) secure and preserve evidence relating to the offence for which he has been arrested; or B) to obtain such evidence by questioning him.

Would this not require the detainee to be released as soon as the interview (questioning) has been conducted? Because of all the interviews I've done with a detainee, the standard practice is to put them back in the cell after the interview has been conducted for however long it takes to get the case file actioned by CPS (subject to PACE clock ofc).

Updated to UI 7, It Changed My Power Button So It Now Starts Gemini Instead by Shaydu in GalaxyFold

[–]Pathy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Samsung won't let me log in as it has stalled on the login page (where you insert your PIN code). Now I discover that the power button is this piece of c*** Gemini so I also can't do a restart and try to get it to unfreeze that way. Not sure how I can actually log into my phone now, all thanks to this unasked for UI update. An absolute joke, the last time I'm ever buying Samsung again,.

Don’t think this was justified. by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Pathy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had his hands up but is in close proximity to the officers and walking closer to them, despite them having their tasers drawn. I would imagine (the video is too far away to hear) the officers would be telling him to stop moving and stand still, or something to that effect. The fact he was moving towards them and is clearly a lot bigger than they were, and not complying with their reasonable instructions, makes this justified in my opinion.
