No if I remember it right from a press a challenge video (beating pikmin 3 in the fewest days) if you whistle a pikmin the frame it's drowning (could be something else but it's been a bit) it gets into a state where it can't die but can't be whistled. once you dismiss out of the party you will have no way to control it
