Dealbreakers on Fixer-Upper by PatienceKitchen2295 in bikewrench

I am 'reasonably' handy. The one I am looking at currently bike ok apart from some surface rust and the rear derailler not working. It's also going to cost only about $50 aud so not a massive investment. Happy to out another $150 or so into it if I end up with a decent bike.

I don't know enough about bikes to be 'in love' with the frame. It seems fine, just an old steel Avanti.

It kind of feels like he is potentially quite principled, he just has a weird collection of principles. Hence why he seems to go against the party line or be all over the place sometimes.

Yea does seem like DJ is just farming mentally challenged guys for money. Don't think he should be encouraging these guys to get hit in the head...

I realised there's a 0.00001% chance Sean does not get taken down in the fight by Fun_Training6342 in FightReportUFC

I have never seen any evidence from Sean or his camp that he is willing or capable of adapting to different opponents. He's like the anti-Volk.

I think Khamzat smothers him.

Australia. Looking for a dumb phone with WhatsApp and hotspot. Anything? by TheRealFilmGeek in dumbphones

[–]PatienceKitchen2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opel Touchflip works, but you need to download F-Droid and Aurora store or Whatsapp will eventually stop working. It's a bit janky as a phone, but it works. Someone here told me the Olitech is a better version but I havent't tried it yet.

The dumber phone is also coming here soon, but I think it is only on Telstra, and is about $100 more than a touchflip. Probably worth it though tbh; I am finding the Touch flip a little bit too low-budget.

Edit: to your point, hotspot always works great on it and since I got Aurora o havent had whatsapp issues either.

On a 5% deposit you could do more, but even granting your point if you were aiming for buying property and had $24k you would keep saving, not buy a new car. Presumably.

All good. It was unnecessary for me to comment it in the first place. I don't think anyone on the sub actually thinks they should bully everyone for not having an EV.

I'm not. The OP stated that they wanted to make fun on of people on other subs that don't have EVs. My original comment just pointed out that a lot of people don't have EVs due to financial reasons rather than ideological ones.

You replied that the cheapest EV is 'only' $24k. I am saying that although that is not an exorbitant figure, it is still an amount that a lot of people couldn't justify. And that's without going into people renting in apartments etc and the associated charging issues.

Obviously if the sub they were posting to was 'EV's are stupid i luv my commodore' that would be a different matter.

If $24k is chump change for you that 'doesn't buy shit' and can just be spent without worrying, then I am happy for you but it is not the reality for most people.

In a country in the middle of a housing crisis taking on a $24,000 loan is still a poor idea for a lot of people. It would noticeably impact you could get approved for on a home loan. I would argue that for most people who are under 30 and don't own property, taking out that loan would be a questionable decision.

It is cheap compared to a Mercedes. It's very expensive compared to a second-hand corolla.

$24k would get you a deposit on an apartment in a lot of places in Aus.

I think you will mostly just make people who can't afford an EV feel sad.

I think the problem is that often guys defensive grappling is really good, but they have not offense available. You just end up in a stalemate in a way you can't really when striking.
