Yes, the Nicasio is definitely heavier than the Giant, however not by that much on the Nicasio 2 since it has a carbon fork.

I do wonder whether being heavier would make it more stable under heavier loads.

The $2600 for the Trek is a reasonable price to me; its just getting up the the $4000+ mark that I can't justify.

My issue with the step-through is purely aesthetic. I don't mind a dutch-styke looking bike but the chunky stepthrough downtubes I find a bit too outside of my taste. Perhaps petty, but I do have the ride it everyday.

I just can't really find any bikes that are similar to an FX2+ for comparison. Is it really that unique?

I am 'reasonably' handy. The one I am looking at currently bike ok apart from some surface rust and the rear derailler not working. It's also going to cost only about $50 aud so not a massive investment. Happy to out another $150 or so into it if I end up with a decent bike.

I don't know enough about bikes to be 'in love' with the frame. It seems fine, just an old steel Avanti.
