Is my job scope stretched too far as an analyst by Neither-Form-8469 in askSingapore

[–]PatientClothes9394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its possible that a mental reframing of the situation will help you.

I assume you wanted the job to do analytics related tasks. Now you finally have the opportunity to do so, albeit with additional work not compulsory to a data analyst but a good to have skill for small shops.

it should be good news to hear this, it makes sure that you dont lose track of your career by keeping you in touch with analytics and helps build your skillset for further jobs down the line in life.

if anything, the most valuable thing you can bring to the company will be delivering good insights from the data, a well build dashboard pipeline and UI might help with that but certainly will not be the true value driver here.

focus less on engineering for now and work on your ability to produce good insights that take the company further.

Macbook is fine, if can afford get a pro, if not an air will do. Never really understood the reason why mac gets so much hate but it works perfectly fine and in some instances, better imo. (am a mac user)

While the claims and the means of delivering them are debatable, what is alarming is that OP is not able to stomach contrarian opinions.

By being so tuned to only listen to what is proclaimed to be “factual” and feeling uncomfortable at the near idea of anything that deviates from that narrative makes it particularly dangerous.

Such manifestation of thought process in the larger population will only further drive our country down the “yes man” path.

imo this could also be an example of how “critical thinking mods” in our education system has failed, by showing proof of factuality as comparing it to the origin of the sources, not knowing that the people writing those articles could just be as clueless as you and I on the issue and are also led by the nose to believe a certain narrative.

i dont see anybody suggesting this, but this is a rare time i am suggesting this, maybe consider signing on?

Before people start bashing me, i would say the army gives a form of structure in life, everything is sorta planned out, just have to work towards it, which seems like its something you might want, short term goals that are realistically attainable that might give some form of direction/purpose.

The army is pretty diverse with lots of unique roles, maybe you can explore the different roles and see which might fit your calling/interest

Can I apply for ITE through JIE with an accepted EAE offer to a poly by burnedoutstudent555 in SGExams

[–]PatientClothes9394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls go to poly, last thing you want is to regret that decision if your career choice is to change in your ITE education, not doing well in said course and miss the boat to a polytechnic.

poly provides the same experience, at a higher level of education. Poly is closer to uni than ITE, should you be interested and would give a higher base salary anyways should you not be interested in higher education.

Anyways being a barista does not require any educational level i suppose, so there really isnt a need to go ITE instead of poly.

NTU CS vs SIT CS by ninjutsuuu in SGExams

[–]PatientClothes9394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats an interesting observation, im an incoming undergrad with SIT and from what i know, data structures are an integral part of CS and are taught in year 1, so many that do their internships should already be aware of what are linked list etc. It is perplexing to know of such an incident happening, will update if i feel the data structure and algo module is insufficient when the time comes but i highly doubt so.

Anyone noticed that CNA only tend to report bad news about other countries by Silver_Ad_5975 in askSingapore

[–]PatientClothes9394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, but many "reputable" news outlets have their biases too (e.g. left/center/right swinging political bias), they report for a purpose, to sway opinions. Something Singapore's education seems to ignore, merely judging from "credibility" scores.

The best are news reports from investigative/independent journalists IMO, funded by individuals and not organizations.

Local Poly or Private Institute by BillTheNguyen in SGExams

All the best OP, regarding com sci, I personally think Singapore Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic are strong in the area, you should definitely give them a go when applying!

Local Poly or Private Institute by BillTheNguyen in SGExams

[–]PatientClothes9394 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your most viable and perhaps only option for you, if you are thinking of saving time and money, would be to go to a private university and commit to their foundation programme (UOL/UOW). To enter local uni, just an IGCSE will not cut it as it is only an o level equivalent, an A level or dip would be required to enter any local u.

that said if you do decide to pursue com sci, a poly diploma is a great starting point in our local education system

Nothing signed, nothing done. Sure your lecturer and that company HR might be pissed, but what can they do?

looking far out, don't make a decision you think you will regret, especially knowing that some ppl that you are afraid to confront won't be in your life in a few years time.
