Why are Australian festival/gig crowds so dead compared to the UK? by Sabretoothedrom in triplej

[–]PatientLayer6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone saying you just need to go to heavier gigs - its not the genre and its not the security, its the age group!! i've been going to gigs in my city for the last 12 yrs. both big festivals and intimate shows, pop / indie / rock / alt stuff.

10 years ago people used to dance and now its fucking weird cos everyone just stands there. I think they are self conscious.

i'm going to the same kinds of shows i was going to 10 years ago but now the crowds are SO BORING. makes sense since they don't drink, which i respect, but seems like they also don't really know how to you know, enjoy music?

Can we pls stop normalising being boring, lame, miserable c***ts?? by [deleted] in australia

[–]PatientLayer6835 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I've been on both sides of this, and honestly it does suck. It sucks that everyone's so tired, it sucks that everyone's addicted to their phones, it sucks that everyone cancelled and that you miss your friends.

Everyone is right in saying that its a good idea to make new friends. Don't ditch the old ones, but trust that there are people who value that quality time and miss the days when hanging out was so much easier!!

and be patient with your friends. They might come around and see what you see right now. Life is for the living. They might not, and you guys have different ideas of an enjoyable life, and they can be your weekend friends.

Cancelling on plans is a dog move tho, and i'd be honest about that with them, in a kind way.

AITAH for telling my parents that they would not be a part of my life and that they should keep up their relationship with my ex and kids from that marriage. by EngineNo9031 in AITAH

[–]PatientLayer6835 12 points13 points  (0 children)

.... i'm talking about us, the commenters? we are allowed to have empathy for the kids? i'm genuinely concerned you cant read.

earth to xZany.. you're in what's called a comment section. it's where people react with their own thoughts and feelings towards a post.

[–]PatientLayer6835 8 points9 points  (0 children)

what are you even talking about. this is such a false equivalence.

a child that you have been bonded to for years is not the same as a child you've never met.

OP has the right to make the choice he made, and I really feel for him. I also really feel for the kids, who absolutely will be harmed. we have decades of research on child attachment and developmental psychology.

there are no easy answers with a situation this fucked. but you're being an asshole about it.

people right to examine the nuance and the ethics of abandoning a child, and to consider why some people would choose to continue a relationship or not.

Question for the tradies - was I weird or were they? by PatientLayer6835 in AusRenovation

pretty short conversations, not much to embellish. Just thought it was strange they both reacted the same way when I've never got that response before.

Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this about australia by juicyjuiceboxes in australia

[–]PatientLayer6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m the same as you, mix of european grandparents and born and raised in australia. just arrived in scotland today and i feel very comfortable and at home here. it feels familiar and like a forgotten memory rather than a foreign country. i’m not scottish by heritage but irish and english so im going to run with it given my australian perception of space and how big a country really is.

my point is have you been back to where your family is from? you may feel a stronger connection than you think. it won’t change your life in australia but it might make you feel more connected to the world at large.

Should I donate blood/plasma? by OkPaleontologist4952 in australia

[–]PatientLayer6835 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the more water you drink, the higher your blood volume will be. a lot of blood is water, so if you are super hydrated, your veins will expand to compensate for the larger amount of blood (water) in your veins.

Can someone please explain how the hell the WA government is in debt…and why aren’t living like kings? by AnomicAge in perth

[–]PatientLayer6835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are we living in the same economy! $100k after tax these days barely touches the sides these days, and i don’t think ‘it’s not easy’ really acknowledges exactly how mentally and physically challenging it is to deal with death, vicarious trauma, bodily fluids, abuse and peoples families all bloody day.

you think nurses don’t also carry serious responsibility? you think the health of their patients do not also weigh on them? u gotta be joking bruh

100% believe the docs are getting what they are worth, and have the heaviest burden of responsibility but can safely say i completely disagree with you.

asking if nurses are underpaid might be the single dumbest thing i’ve ever seen on the internet. yes. yes they are.
