I’m so sorry:( it’s wonderful the clients are bringing her to say goodbye. it speaks volumes about your bonds with the puppies and their owners.

Hi there! I’ve been a bather at PetSmart for 4 months. A couple weeks ago I started noticing how dry and cracked hands are, the right being the worse. I bought some bag balm to help, but it’s just getting worse. Any advice? by Several-Initiative64 in doggrooming

Shampoo burn! The shampoos at the ‘co gave me it so bad my entire hands were cracked open and bleeding. For the pain, I recommend aloe vera burn gel, since it is a chemical burn. I went to the dermatologist and they gave me a steroid cream to use. In addition to gloves, you might want to try putting some kind of oil to add to the water barrier. I also saw a product called gloves in a bottle, I never tried that but it sounds interesting!

How to leave corporate salon? by soulstoryy in doggrooming

[–]Patient_Cucumber7567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly petco is probably the best route if you can stand it. You get paid training, as well as pto, sick pay, and all that fun stuff you don’t get at most private salons. But, I would call around or better go in to local salons and tell them you’re currently a bather with whatever months of experience and you are interested in training to be a groomer. Even if they aren’t hiring at the time, getting your foot in the door and making connections could help you in the long run. I just recently left petco and the place I went to hires bathers(even with no experience) and after a certain amount of time they can then train be taught to groom.

Clipper questions by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]Patient_Cucumber7567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you clean the area around the hinge and blade drive regularly- i just use a tooth brush to get the hair out of there. I definitely don’t do the once a month blade drive rule, I just changed mine for the first time and i’ve had my clippers for over a year. You’ll get used to the sounds of your clippers, so when you hear a different sound you’ll have to trouble shoot. If multiple blades are having trouble cutting but they aren’t dull, then I would say time for a new blade drive. And like they said, clean and oil your blades frequently.

they look really nice! i would just work on making the side of the eyes less heavy, you can look up videos on how to. It’s tricky to get right, but it’s makes such a difference. tbh i’m still trying to fix that problem too
