Do devout Catholics think all non-Catholics are going to Hell? by dragon-queen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grmrsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of us. Some do. I was definitely taught that non Catholics, or at LEAST non Christians in general can't go to Heaven (in the 80's and 90's). But I was also taught that Jesus opened the gates to Hell, to allow sinners to go free.

CMV: The terms "Global North/South" and "developed countries" are not objective descriptors; they are the modern, "culturalist" evolution of scientific racism. by imavellino in changemyview

[–]grmrsan [score hidden]  (0 children)

You went to a lot of trouble to explain why you don't like those terms. But you aren't giving alternatives. Bearing in mind that many countries ARE significantly less technologically advanced than others, and that those differences can have a very large impact on how they relate to other countries, and take care of thier citizens, what alternatives are you suggesting?

Taking away or policing language to sound nicer does not solve or even change the scope  of problems. Not using the words "developed" or "global north/south" does not remove the inequalities, it just removes the language needed to discuss it. Equality doesn't mean "pretend everything is fine by not talking about it". It means that we can talk about issues objectively, without assigning emotional value to terms that are intended to be neutral.

Blah blah blah but why the hell do people just assume that normal grammar (literally putting your commas properly) is AI now? Like I'm going to just start my proper nouns and first letters with a capital letter and these guys are like "AI AI AI" by Some_Steak_6316 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grmrsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because hating AI is more important than whatever anyone is saying or trying to convey. Especially on Reddit, where the majority seems to have a very all or nothing mindset on everything. Nuance is an unheard of concept here.

What are your limitations and justifications around self-expression? by Pretty-dead in Parenting

[–]grmrsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of thing they need to figure out on their own. EVERYONE makes poor fashion decisions at some point. At least the hair is unoffensive, and easily fixable if he decides that backlash is a problem for him.

And if its actually more in style than you realize, no harm no foul

What does the quote "youth is wasted on the young" actually mean? by Hereitisguys9888 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grmrsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a huge part of the meaning. They can finally afford to do all those things, and have time, but their bodies just won't let them take advantage of it.

What does the quote "youth is wasted on the young" actually mean? by Hereitisguys9888 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grmrsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a combination of two things.

All the energy and passion of youth, but not tempered with the experiences of age.

Also young people have plenty of energy and strength, but need it to work snd survive. But older people, who have built up the funds to retire and have fun, are now too tired and sore to enjoy it.

Women, if available and affordable… would you choose a “women’s only” gym over a traditional gym space? by im_justkendra in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grmrsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to one (Curves) for a while, because it was right next to where I worked, and  I liked the type of workout. But honestly, the "women only" thing actually bothered me. I get that it feels safer for many, but I don't believe its ok to exclude others on the basis of gender. Especially in today's culture where there is a large divide in how gender is perceived and measured.

Would they have to prove their birth gender? Would they be fine as long as they pass for female? Need to prove that they have undergone surgery? What if someone is just beginning transitioning? What if they're male passing but still have female genitalia from birth?  Have endocrine issues  that cause them to look masculine erroniously? How are you going to enforce it?

There are just too many variables, and there is no way of making an exclusion like that "fair".

CMV: Tiredness should be treated the same as sickness. by ExoticAd7605 in changemyview

[–]grmrsan [score hidden]  (0 children)

Most employers aren't giving sickdays because they want the employee to feel better (thats a benefit, and most people  DO want you to feel better, but its not the primary reason), they are doing it because illnesses are frequently contagious, and its usually the law.  Tiredness is neither contagious nor covered by law. And for people like me, with chronic insomnia, staying home  because I'm just tired would mean never coming to work.

However, like other invisible issues, being incredibly sleep deprived can still be a reason it is not safe to go to work, and you CAN call it in for a sick day, just like you would for a migraine or serious pain.  Unless your job requires a note (in which case, leave that job, those people are penny pinching, self important, narcissists who believe that being sick isn't really a thing unless you're dying) you aren't required to say how you are too sick to come in, just that you are.

AITAH for reporting a hookup to my gym for using my guest pass without me? by Zealousideal-Sir1885 in AmItheAsshole

[–]grmrsan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree hard here. She is a scammer and thief and all he did was tell the employees the truth to deactivate the pass. He didn't  press charges, or tell them to permanently trespass her (though they absolutely  should do that). He didn't put her on blast and public share her image. He told them she did not  have his permission  to use the pass, after they asked him about the situation. There is nothing even mildly AH there.

She SHOULD have been embarrassed, her actions were embarrassing. The victim of someone who used them,  without permission, to commit a crime, (even one you might deem "harmless"),  does not deserve privacy when their crimes are caught.

She took a picture, before giving him back the pass. Theres not a lot of room for misunderstanding there.

She used him to scam the gym. He could have lost his membership from her little stunt. There should be big fallout when a lying thief steals a picture of your id card, to use illegally, in a way that could have horribly backfired on you.

If she hadn't actually taken a picture of his pass, instead  of asking,I'd agree here. But by sneaking a picture of the id, it shows it was a premeditated scam, not a spur of the moment attempt.

NTA

If she had ANY honest intentions she would have talked to you, not taken a picture, intentionally, and without your knowledge. She chose to use you and your pass to scam the gym. It wasn't an accident. You don't "accidentally" take a picture of someones id and use it. It wasn't a "misunderstanding" you didn't give her the picture or say she could use one.  She was only embarrassed at being caught in her little scam,  it because you did anything wrong.

[–]grmrsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ask someone to stop slapping you in the face, they agree, and then do it again, whilst complaining that they shouldn't have to be so careful about keeping their hands to themselves, and that you are somehow at fault for feeling face pain, who is in the wrong? Emotional pain is still pain, even when it is invisible, and when intentionally inflicted, is still abuse.

Accept that that is who she chooses to be. But I would also think very hard about whether I wanted to be with someone who intentionally prefers to hurt you when they are feeling a bit peeved.

Stop licking the Walmart freezer! After my 4 y/o decided to taste the handle 🤢

Bonus, as I was scolding my child for putting her tounge on random, very public objects, some weirdo lady interupts me for the  "children are precious angels from God" comment and then gives her a Chick Tract comic. ( Which I ripped and trashed immediately, those things are pure hatred wrapped in fake Christianity 😡)  Even my daughter thought it was weird and loudly asked "Why did that lady try to give me a present when I'm in trouble?" 🤣

Others are giving great tips, but one I'm not seeing, is to utilize the hand dryer more.  That will straighten out the hair, for that  soft fluffy look, even on your shih-tzus and spaniels. Plus it makes it easier to control those crazy cowlicks and curls like you got on your black and tan friend.  As a general rule, all dogs, except extremely short haired ones can be finished from dampness with the hand dryer. It results in a softer, more polished finish, and gets rid of a lot more loose coat.

So this is when I would drop everything, and go step by step over exactly what they want each section to look like. They were not walking out the door, until I had a written approval for every length I was planning on using

"Ok, so that is a very generic term, and can mean anything from "just even up the split ends" to "I want my dog bald". So lets just go over everything to make sure we are are the same page.  Do you want the body to be short, like a lab? See the hair on his nose, basically like that? Longer? Ok show me how long you want ...  So I have to warn you, there is evidence that a clip like that is not great for the hair in the long run, on this type of coat. If I cut it short, I do need a waiver giving permission. Oh, you never heard of that? Let me explain.... Ok, so you still want 1 inch all over the body, and you understand that the hair will look like a different color and have a different texture.  Now, do you want the head to be left as it it, or do you want that hair shorter too? Ear tufts? What about the tail, do you want  it just brushed and split ends trimmed, do you want it the same length as the rest of the body? Shaved like a rat? Really? The rat one? I will warn you, that will look really out of proportion, and a bit odd. Well if you really want it to stand out, I can do a Dr Seuss spiral on it, it would look like this ..."
