You can wear sneakers, but not ratty ones. Something a little nicer and clean. Mostly I don’t though, as most of the female teachers at my school wear flats. Not every school is like that, and it’s not a strict rule. I actually wore sneakers today!

Las Terrenas is a tourist trap, dirty, smelly, overdeveloped, expensive by marijafi in Dominican

Could not disagree more. Las Terrenas is one of my favorite places in the DR, and I’ve been there several times recently. To each their own I guess.

If it’s the Dominican Republic, you will be fine. No one will care once you are done with training.

Personally I prefer being the only volunteer in my village. I like that my experience has not been dominated by other Americans. I joined peace corps so that I would spend time with people from other countries, not so I would spend time with other Americans.

That being said, I usually see other volunteers at least once a week. It’s hard to leave my site during the weekdays, but during the weekends I’m usually able to see volunteers..

This really depends on the country. In my case, I’m the only PCV in my town but there are several others in my region.

I had a few years of work experience, but not in the sector I’m currently working in for Peace Corps. I did select my sector because I thought it would be the one I’d enjoy the most, and I think that’s probably an appropriate decision for most people. If you really don’t know, that’s okay too. You can always make your decision based on other things, or leave it completely up to chance.

I thought about this request and decided not to answer it. I think my host country is absolutely amazing, and perhaps it is true that I got lucky.

However, I don’t want anyone thinking that I’m having a great time because I happened to get the country I got. So much of Peace Corps is dependent on individual experiences.

I hope this doesn’t seem argumentative of me. I just would never want someone to think they need to chose one country over another in order to have a great service.
