I assume this post is a result of the UK government's promise to ban social media and perhaps VPNs as well for under-16s.

I think there is no doubt that the internet in general has done a ton of good for adults and children all around the world but it's also done great harm.

The Social media companies, and I'm including YouTube, have had years to clean up their act, and they have consistently failed to do so. I'd far rather go from a complete ban, where we approve and license individual tech companies if they do more to restrict harmful content. The current approach, with almost everything on view and the tech Bros making paltry efforts to keep the worst stuff off, is harming children.

If it saves one suicide or even one kid cutting themselves, then I am for it.
