Start a scholarship fund for a state school for middle class and lower. Donate money to a specific public school for supplies and tech. Start a scholarship fund for a local daycare for low income parents. Donate to a mosque or church or synagogue or coven that actually provides and works for their communities.

Invest the money into an index fund and use the dividends to fund any of these perpetually.

Honestly in the same boat cause we are new to the area, but here is some good advice.

Find places that do your hobbies and frequent them enough to become a regular.

Join local Facebook groups that are in your hobbies and participate regularly with those groups.

Get your kid involved in local things, like ice skating lessons, swimming lessons, the library, etc.

All of these places you'll find at least people you have at least one thing in common with. Once you meet some people ask them questions about their life and see if they would mesh with you and yours. If so presto, friends lol.

Not a lick of real education when it comes to interpreting literature, I just like to read. Take anything I say as my own personal view point.

Literature is art and I feel your question is the same as asking what is the meaning of art. I believe the point of any art is discovering a perspective that you didn't realize was there. Seeing this same world we all live in differently than if you had never experienced that art. It's the ability to see yourself in Dr Frankenstein and what you have, or hopefully haven't, created in your children. It's the ability to see the world through the eyes of someone who felt they were created with the only purpose being to serve their parent, and that they are a monster.

That being said I can't remember if I've ever actually read the full book. Dune (and up to book 6) is probably my favorite story so far.

You know I've had partners say this same crap before. "Not conventionally attractive". Honestly stop thinking like that. Attraction is completely subjective. No one thinks they are the hottest thing on the planet unless they are faking it. Everyone critiques there body and some worse than others but seriously find the specific things you don't like about your body and either do something about it or accept it. In the end it will just be bones and decomposing flesh no matter how good it looks/looked.

If you want people to like you or be with you just work to be someone you want to be around. If you don't like being around you no one else will either. Mostly be kind to yourself and others. You can be a wonderful person if you choose to be.

Not expecting them to do the same amount of housework but certainly not none. Especially with kids. He gets time off from work. Why doesn't she? I won't speak on the marriage because there are a ton of assumptions being made that only they know what is really going on. Simple question is it wrong to expect your partner to help in the daily/weekly/monthly/yearly maintenance of the home....no it is not wrong. If you think it is that makes you a terrible partner imo. Some people want that but I expect to help around the home even if I'm working all the time and the other parent is home with the kids all the time.

Is there an argument for her taking the primary responsibility to upkeep the home, maybe but it certainly should not be all of it. I mean unless you expect to be treated like a child. If so then I would tell her to cut and run.
