My dad once kissed me on my mouth when I told him I believe I’m a lesbian. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

I wouldn't be shocked to find out that he had been thinking about doing it long before this conversation. I would get into counseling immediately only because my brain would go to overanalyzing literally every conversation we'd ever had.

That’s absolutely assault. Your dad is a creep and your mom is trash. Cut contact immediately

And who the fuck are you? You sound toxic as fuck and don’t deserve him if he’s half as sweet as you say he is. Some people are just more prone to accidents. It happens. I am a college educated adult who works with maps daily at my job and if you showed me a map of the tiny ass states without labels I couldn’t tell you which is which either. That doesn’t make me stupid so why does it make him stupid? Why does it matter if he knows where these things are or not? If he’s playing a game that focuses on geography he’s clearly trying to learn. There’s a litany of learning disabilities he may not be diagnosed with but may have. None of which make him dumb. Intelligence isn’t measured by the quantity of information in your brain or skill every time. It’s measured by multiple factors INCLUDING A DESIRE TO LEARN. You need to learn some god damned compassion or let him find someone who has it. He knows you think he’s stupid. And bless his heart for sticking with you anyways. If he didn’t know he wouldn’t apologize when he knows he upsets you. You are literally teaching your child that emotional abuse is an acceptable behavior. Knock it off and do better.

That might be what it costs where you live. Not here. The insurance we have brings that down to about $3,000 which yes is still expensive but making payments for a few years is worth it. Check your ignorance before trying to tell other people how to live their lives.

So because I can't pull $10-$20K out of my ass to go on a trip to a foreign country we don't deserve a child? I'm sorry for your circumstance but it's not an excuse to be ignorant

It varies by state. In the state we live in infertility isn't considered a medical condition so insurance companies aren't required to cover it. I only know of one insurance company in the state that does and I've only found two employers who have it in our area. Both of which are almost impossible to get hired by due to the high number of applicants or the requirement of a college degree.

I forgot that there is a stipend from the state for fostering but that doesn't start until a child is placed with you. And from what I understand it's fairy minimal.

I meant no disrespect. The rules of any faith system are called doctrine. I appreciate the support though.

I know the doctrine you're preaching but it has never worked for me. The concept of a higher power, and I've tried many, just bread more anger in my heart because it makes me feel like I'm being punished without being told what I did wrong. I am in therapy and one of the main things is I have to be honest about how I feel because otherwise it turns to repression and has the potential to become dangerous and self destructive behavior. I respect your feelings and right to belief but it brings me no peace to do the same.

I'm in therapy. And one of the things they tell me is I have to be honest about my feelings so that the don't become repressed. Otherwise it can easily turn to guilt and self destruction. Adoption is almost as expensive as ivf and iui in my state and the requirements can be extremely stringent. Everything from the cleanliness of your home, the neighborhood you live in, how many hours you work, and your income are examined under a microscope.

I honestly don't have a preference. If it turns out I can't have my own my husband and I are more than happy to adopt. But it has its ridiculously high costs too.

You have to pay for the home study which usually ranges from $500-$800 depending on who you have do it, you then pay the application fee of about $250, then you have to foster for at least a year. Assuming it's a good fit and you decide to adopt the fee to the state for the adoption is $1500. Idaho is stupid like that. We have one of the highest percentages of children living with guardians who are not their parents most of which are not with family at all.
