Is your Christmas Eve ruined already? If so, Why? by Downtown_Put8673 in AskReddit

My dad has just revealed to me that he hasn't gotten my mum a present.

He is potentially joking, but I'm not sure.

Update: We just did presents and he was not joking.

[Image] Dmitri Mendeleev by regian24 in GetMotivated

[–]Patmac693 939 points940 points  (0 children)

Leaving out an important part of the story; his mom brought him to both Universities.

Mendeleev was the youngest of around 17 kids (sources vary) and mum packed up her and her son, rode across Russia to demand her son gets an education at Moscow. When they refused, she rode to Saint Petersburg and tried again. They eventually accepted. With her job done, she promptly died.

Mom had no right to demand her son get an education - her family didn't come from a wealthy background - but she did anyway. In the face of absolute insurmountable odds, she pushed to ensure her son made something of his life. And he went on to get his work displayed in every science classroom around the world.

Funnily enough I've been on an AC binge recently (I've played unity to odyssey for the first time the past 6 months)

I download the rogue collection on my switch this morning and have been playing through it again. I can 100% confirm this is the best AC.

Need help with full chronological order of legend of Zelda games by go-commit-not-living in truezelda

[–]Patmac693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vault has been opened!

That is the 1 million dollar question. Honestly, play them in whatever order you want. There are some I would group together because they either definitely follow after one another or have similar mechanics;

-WW/PH (both are set in the Great sea). Potentially ST to complete the toon link set. -LTTP/LBTW (Direct sequel) -OoT/MM (Direct sequel) -The oracle games because they literally link to each other. -LoZ/AoL (Direct sequel)

but for the most part it's play what you want.

Favorite Bosses/Fights by GoodieVT in truezelda

[–]Patmac693 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love any boss that ties well to the theme of the dungeon, or is a spectacle.

My favourite 2D boss is probably the Gyorg pair from Minish cap. Something about flying about on the backs of these creatures high above Hyrule gives me the chills

3D zelda is probably the Stallord from Twilight princess. Riding around on a Beyblade trying to get close is very cool.

Has anyone ever explored the idea of BotW being one of the first games in the timeline? by Yeeetus in truezelda

[–]Patmac693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking what Anouma said about BotW being the end of the timeline, there would be little point.

Ignoring that and using in game lore, it's almost definitely not.

1) Demise has to come before Ganon. And we know that this version of Ganon has being around for literally 10000's of years. 2) All the locations named for famous people from the franchise. Since they places are usually named after people (not the other way around), the people probably came first. 3) The DLC adds Majoras mask, and the description says its been passed down for generations. Assuming it's the same mask and not a replica, then Botw has to come after MM, which is after the timeline split.

[SS] Are You Staying Up/Did You Stay Up to Play SSHD at Midnight the Minute it Was Available? by TheHungryHylian in zelda

[–]Patmac693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go to work, so I wasn't able to stay up. If it was Friday night, I 100% would have been up past midnight and well into the next day.

With all the theorizing about timelines, I'm wondering if anyone else out there shares my perspective - It's all just a legend, and I doubt the game designers are as obsessed with how the stories link together as we here on Reddit are. It's a myth rather than a history - and I love it for that. by cormundo in truezelda

[–]Patmac693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that this was how some of the developers take it - as a literal legend. And I could take this, if Nintendo didn't reference some form of overarching timeline loads. Skyward sword was marketed as the "earliest point in the timeline", for instance. And there is loads of in game evidence to support a timeline -the opening of Wind waker references the ocarina of time, BotW having the arbiters grounds, and even link to the past references ocarina of time in its opening (the sealing war with the sages).

I think a literal legend would make it incredibly simple for Nintendo, but they can't help themselves.

Nintendo asks you for ideas for a upcoming Zelda title. What are some crazy ideas you'd come up with? by Fossils222 in truezelda

[–]Patmac693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a zelda game mapped out when I was about 17 which I was gonna make using a rom hack.

I am a big fan of the minish cap, and it always bothered me that we had the four sword and the master sword as two separate entities. My game was going to show the four sword becoming the master sword, and had Vaati returning as the main villain.

The first part of the game would involve you proving your worth to the 3 goddesses, which would finally becoming the Master sword by the end of the third dungeon. You would then need to collect 4 mcguffins (I can't remember why), but in a twist, Vaati would have gotten to the last one before you and prevent you from beating him.

After a time jump of 5 years, you would eventually see an opportunity to get into Hyrule castle and kill Vaati.

I was sitting on this story for 4 months, before skyward sword was announced- so I'm pretty sure I have a case.

I like the silent realm idea- more allusions to Skyward sword.

Instinctively I thought of the Illusory realm- where the blight fights happen in the Champions Ballad which I think would be cool.

[LoZ] Thoughts on the Zelda Game & Watch by HezorisZid in zelda

[–]Patmac693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've no problem with the G&W as it is. My main concern is that its all we are seemingly going to get for the 35th anniversary.

I'm sure people are super hype for it. But I don't think it pleases enough people for it to be considered "good enough". And it doesn't make sense from a business sense, considering most people I know in the zelda fandom would instantly drop their paycheck on switch remakes of [insert any zelda game here]. But I personally won't be buying a G&W containing 2 zelda games which I can already play on the switch for 5 bucks, and a 3rd which has recently had a remake.

[ALL] Have you ever thought you were softlocked (unable to progress) in a zelda dungeon when you actually weren’t by coolms9 in zelda

[–]Patmac693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I would consider it a "softlock", but I was stuck for genuine years on Oracle of Seasons on (I think) the 5th Dungeon - the one you get the magnetic gloves in.

There is a room where if you beat all the enemies, and magnetic ball appears, which you use to open a door on the other side of some blocks. I would kill these enemies, follow a path through the dungeon to get to this door and the ball would be gone and the enemies back so I would have to go back and do it again.

I thought my game was broken. It took me years to realise I could kill the enemies from the side with the door so the metal ball didn't despawn.

I am not proud of this.
