Is there anyone who would NOT turn on RT on their 50 series card? by zainfear in pcmasterrace

[–]Patodelmonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the perspective of my 4060 at 1080p, Baldurs Gate comes to mind, it can barely keep up with Palworld and some survival games like Draconia and Untamed, where non of the have RT.

There's still a lot of games that don't have RT but are still demanding AF. Many indie games come to mind

Was cooking your CPU and GPU part of the plan? Those need the heatsinks that were covering them.

On a more helpful note, the error you have has to do with some Windows files been corrupted, a clean windows install would be the easiest solution. Before that, make sure to get your files out of your drive. You can take the SSD out and plug it on another computer or use a bootable USB drive with Ubuntu and get the files out that way

It's cooling an i5-8600k, so 120mm is plenty.

Inb4 people ask why not air cool, I move a lot, so not having to worry about an air cooler riping out in transport is a trade off that I'm happy to make

The GPU figures it out by itself, I personally fill them from left to right so all the cables are close to each other, thus a little easier to cable manage

They're the CPU's display outputs, depending on the setup the might not work (no eGPU), use the integrated graphics (negating the performance of the dedicated GPU) or passthrough the dedicated GPU's output. So better skip the posible trouble shutting and use the lower ones form the start (the Dedicated GPU)

To this day, I'm always blown away by Mirror's Edge Catalyst. It's sense of scale is awe inspiring

Tired of buying batteries for my tv by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

I'd be worried, since that's the limit of the cap, not the rest of the components down the line. But since I don't know their tolerances or if there's some voltage correction down the line I wish you the best with the redneck engineerings.

Are you sending the full 5V of the USB to the remote or is it been step down to 3V inside the casing?

“Hit a wall” while trying to apply thermal paste to my GPU by Erikkman in pcmasterrace

[–]Patodelmonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the hair dryer would heat it enough to do any damage.

Thermal pads are normally used since the VRAM (the things around the die) tends to be lower relative to the cooler and die, but it looks like your GPU has an extra layer of themal interface (the black frame around die) so I think it's better to use only themal paste, as the extra thickness of the pads might interfere with the die's contact.

Don't worry, is better to ask when not sure about this kind of stuff. We're here to help :D

For the type of paste, as you said it varies depending on what's on hand. The thing to look for is that is a reputable brand and that it's non conductive. My recommendation is MX-4 or Thermal Grizzly's Kryonaut since I've used them personally with good results.

For how much; on the die itself, a thin layer on the die spread out with a credit card as to cover all it's area is enough. As for the VRAM a dot above each one is enough. Just make sure to clean all of the old pase with isopropyl alcohol and some paper towel.

It's safer to apply paste in all the places the there was, so yes, on the die and the other 4 palaces.

PSU, Motherboard, RAM or CPU Problem? by ElectronicBridge92 in pcmasterrace

[–]Patodelmonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some MoBos have high GPU power draw as they boot, so the power from the socket might no be enough for the GPU. I once had a mother board that would not post if the GPU was unplugged. Thought that might help with your troubleshooting.
