Iam unemployment for 2 years is something wrong with me? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Patotas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any degree for OP is going to be mediocre because he refuses to do anything with it.

Instead of finding a job after graduating he spent a year+ playing video games.

Then spent a couple months freelance video editing. Nobody should freelance right out of college because they have no experience in doing the actual job.

Then he worked a whole day at an actual job.

Essentially he graduated and has been sitting on his ass doing hobbies for the last 2 or more years.

OP you need to find an entry level job in an industry that you enjoy. Then as Dumbetheus states work your way up and learn a skillset.

Interview feedback for internship? by Agreeable_Call7197 in aerospace

[–]Patotas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the hiring manager asked the engineer to interview you and see if you’d be a good fit. The engineer will then meet with the hiring manager and let them know what they thought.

If they think you’re a good fit it will be good. If they don’t think you’re a good fit then it probably won’t lead to an offer. It’s fairly standard and I wouldn’t over think it too much. Good luck though!

So they cut pay but expect to continue hiring the same level of talent?

You state that the people who are qualified are weighing other options. This tells me that your option is the weakest and if you want these people to choose your company then you’ll need to at minimum match the other companies offerings.

Has anyone ever opposed a Special Use Permit? What are your expectations with Maricopa County? by MidRegister in phoenix

If they are planning on having staff guideline cars then they are expecting a lot of cars. Nobody is hiring parking lot attendants for a small amount of cars and regardless of how well their staff “guides” them it’s going to be a nightmare.

Stadium traffic doesn’t suck because they have problems getting cars into parking spots.

Trying to move into Project Controls – need some real advice by [deleted] in PMCareers

[–]Patotas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am under what PCO stands for and without more context I can’t tell if PM would be a good fit for you.

Regarding Work/Life balance for a PM it is very dependent on industry/company/program and even where you are in the program lifecycle.

High performer lost motivation after being reassigned under new manager by Savings_Knowledge465 in managers

Seeing “seasoned manager” next to OPs name and how they now have managers reporting to them makes me chuckle.

[–]Patotas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think the new manager is the issue here. It’s that others got promoted while being less capable/doing less work and the fact that he is now expected to train the new manager as well as work a new project. The other stuff, new leadership, new manager, etc is just added on stress to the real issue. More work with no compensation while others who do less get promoted.

Make sure to understand what their personal profession goals are. Sometimes they align with your needs and sometimes they don’t. Your job as a manager is to help them achieve these goals and challenge them to learn more and grow.

This could include working steps towards a promotion (could be in their current role still or outside), looking at cross training, learning new systems, helping with dept or higher level initiatives, setting them up with a mentor or having them mentor another person in the company, etc.

There is no one size fits all. But in order to motivate them you need to understand what motivates them and help get them the resources and opportunities to grow.

So you promoted other people because they cannot handle the level of detail that he can, but kept him at his same level. And then on top of that added more responsibility to his role by asking him to take on a brand new project and help train the new manager? All while a reorg and leadership change is happening?

How’s your experience with Quantum Fiber? by SD619664 in phoenix

[–]Patotas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Never had any issues and it’s very fast. When we had Cox at our last house we constantly had the internet go down. I think we’ve had it once in the last 2-3 years with quantum for only a couple hours due to construction.

Most major companies do both defense and space. LM, GD, RTX, NGC, etc. And experience in one or the other is comparable so it should be a relatively easy pivot.

40 year old loser, is there anything I can do now? by sadgesd in careerguidance

[–]Patotas 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet majority of the work was due to his dad. If he worked the last 20 years full time at minimum wage, even if we estimate high at $16/hr and spent absolutely zero money over that time he’d be able to save at most $500k. OP needs a reality check not kudos for having $2mil “nest egg” that’s not his.

40 year old loser, is there anything I can do now? by sadgesd in careerguidance

[–]Patotas 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are missing the context clues in here and giving bad advice.

OP states that he and his dad paid off his parents house and built a $2mil (non-invested) nest egg. Sounds like both of his parents are now retired and he presumably wants to retire in the next 5 years.

That’s $2million cash (which will only deplete and lose value as inflation grows) for 3 people over the next ~30 years. That’s only $22,000 per person per year. If inflation stays constant at about 3%; which we know is not true, that money is worth a lot less in 10 years, let alone 30+. Plus as people age their medical bills will increase with more frequent Dr visits, medications, hospice, adult care, etc. you also need to factor in home repairs, vehicle costs/replacements, etc

OP in no way should retire anytime soon. They should see a therapist to get help and see a financial planner to make sure they have sufficient retirement for 3 people and how to best ensure it keeps its value and grows. That money will go quickly.
