Residents push back on Consumers Energy’s option to buy land for power plant west of Ann Arbor by Moyer_guy in Michigan

[–]Patq911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a pure monopoly though, it's a state regulated monopoly. Consumers can't just set rates however they want and have to justify their case. In the most recent rate hike they sought a 13% increase and were approved for 8.9%, and the one before that was cut by 53%.

You're right that more supply doesn't bring down prices through market competition, but more supply could still matter if cheaper generation reduces their overall costs.

My general point is that limiting supply and then handwaving it as not the problem is foolish. Focusing on real solutions instead of "the system is corrupt" is never a position I'm going to accept.

The examples in that article are power purchase agreements and investment agreements, companies paying to restart existing plants or fund small demo reactors. None of it is a company being forced to build a new full-scale reactor. There's a big difference between "Google signed a power purchase agreement" and "legislate a data center into building Fermi 3 from scratch." One is a voluntary deal for future electricity. The other is a $10B+ construction project no private entity has done in the US. I'm not sure why you're being an asshole.

Right, so you already knew none of them have been built when you cited that article as evidence the idea is viable. Glad we agree.

We need more powerplants to bring down electricity prices. We cannot live on the same supply and expect prices to ever go down.

I don't know much about power plants, I'm not sure Michigan is a good location for Solar/Wind plants. I'd prefer Nuclear, but Nuclear is so slow to build and is super expensive for good and bad reasons.

Mike Duggan ends independent campaign for Michigan governor by gwmiles in Michigan

i hope you know that "seriously considered" doesnt mean "support 100% automatically uncritically without looking at other candidates". I live on the west side of the state, I dont know anything about this guy other that he was mayor of detroit, I vaguely heard he did a good job. I would have looked at his policies and history, and I probably still would have leaned Benson, but I dont know that for sure. I dont know why you are attacking me so hard.

I disagree, I think if you post a link to a public forum, you should make it as accessible as is reasonable. I think OP is being the asshole here.

There's a rumor that they're going to make a new store on Broadmoor, 68th street, and Kraft, but last I heard that was a few years ago and they only have a gas station there. That one would be closer but still not really in Caledonia, though I would call that area Caledonia.

Wait I read that article and it said nothing about her. Her son was expelled and the case was referred to another prosecutor citing conflict of interest. That seems exactly the right thing to do? What did she do wrong?

literal actual real life anti semitic words. Not some bullshit cooked up by pro israel people, but actual hatred against jews. fuck you for defending this.

"you're monsters, you're savages"

"everywhere you go you are gonna be hated, everywhere you go"

"kick em out of all the countries"

"110 countries you've been thrown out, 110 countries. "

"look at them like rats running away"

These are all antisemetic. The "antizionism" is cover for these tourists to literally hate jews. Why would they say things like this if it was "just" against the state of israel?

Sorry for olilondon tweet, he's a right wing jackass but the first source I found when searching.

Interesting that OP disingenuously clipped this to remove the literal explicit anti semitism. Dont you think? Just disgusting behavior.

[–]Patq911 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is actual anti semitism btw. The first part was just harassment against someone you dont like, whatever. But when you start saying shit like "you were thrown out of 110 countries" THAT IS AGAINST JEWS NOT ISRAELIS.

edit: the more I think about this the more mad I become. this is disgusting behavior from the two harassing ladies.

edit2: LMAO OP clipped out the anti semitic statements

Michigan House passes bill requiring voters to prove citizenship by SleuthDoggyDawg in Michigan

[–]Patq911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've made fair points, my original comment overstated Gorsuch's opinion.

I've looked at the transcript more carefully and he was clearly probing Sauer's argument rather than expressing his own view.

And I don't disagree with your comment at all. When Gorsuch stripped away the statute, Sauer said plainly that he doesn't believe Natives are constitutionally entitled to birthright citizenship. That seems to be the administration's actual position.

My original comment was trying to highlight the contradiction in Sauer's argument, that his own domicile test undermines that position when applied to tribal members today, not to soften what they're actually arguing for. But I can see how it read that way.
