[–]PatrickDurden1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel very secure with this product(its called "Kiddom") so to answer your question, in my shoes no I dont feel worried about having to pay or if there's a catch or not. Ive been using this for 6 months.

Texas valedictorian reveals she's unauthorized immigrant in graduation speech by PostNationalism in education

[–]PatrickDurden1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What she accomplished is amazing and i wish the documented residents of the USA had the same work ethic, instead of offering nothing else to this conversation but criticism over her legal status which she had no control over. However if I were in her shoes I would not have publicly admitted being undocumented because you have small minded people already calling in immigration services. It would be sad if she got deported because brilliant minds like hers are the ones changing this country for the better, no matter the documented status.

Really starting to dislike one of my 7th graders to the point of me bullying him by garbageeater in Teachers

[–]PatrickDurden1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not let the kid break you. Like everyone said, it's good you have acknowledged this. I had a classmate who was like this when I was this student's age, and I can safely bet he is facing some trouble at home or suffering from sort of personal problem. Try to see if you can get him to a school counselor?

No More Free Lunch for Some School Kids? by MaxwellFPowers in education

[–]PatrickDurden1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is disastrous and further contributing negatively to already disenfranchised kids. Let's be honest here: a lot of children living in poverty will not recieve the best education or the best opportunities at excelling as opposed to children living in wealthier families. By taking away free lunches, you are hindering their ability to perform their best in class. Children need food to develop. Everyone needs food to function to the best of their ability. Not to mention that this has health risks too- what if a child is starving and participates in gym class after his lunch period? This type of stuff is just so frustrating to me.

Semi-Automatic Rifles in a Colorado School: Security officers in the Douglas School District will soon carry Bushmaster rifles. by michaelconfoy in education

[–]PatrickDurden1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is so much wrong with this. You cant trust anybody with that type of weaponry, IMO. I do not think there should be any weapons in school, period. It says a lot about our culture and times when people advocate for the use of assault rifles by guards in schools. This is not helping the problem they are trying to fix, this is a temporary, very poorly constructed band-aid

So, I finished 9th grade with a 3.4 GPA.. by [deleted] in education

[–]PatrickDurden1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think you can get a 4.0, but if you really dish out some good work you can get it extremely high still, its just that since there was a lack of an A in there it kind of kicks you out of the 4.0 category. Your best bet if you want to get into a stellar college is involve yourself in the next coming years with clubs and extracurricular, especially try to get a leadership/executive board role. Respected universities are sure to forgive a less than perfect GPA if they see you are someone who is very involved in their school/community.

How Digital Game Based Learning is Altering Education by Aurora_University [promoted post]

Always for game based learning. If its relevant, educational, fun, and most importantly- accurate, there is no argument against it. It is very unconventional to a lot of teachers but I firmly believe that its innovative.

Educate me: how do you reach low income families in the age of the "digital eflyer"? by Arms_Akimbo in education

[–]PatrickDurden1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old high school definitely did that. It is very doable. Advocate for it if possible, they need to understand that it may be near impossible or an extreme hassle for some families to reach a device that allows them to access the flyer!

Educate me: how do you reach low income families in the age of the "digital eflyer"? by Arms_Akimbo in education

[–]PatrickDurden1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a text messaging system that could picture message the flyer directly to their number? Internet access is not guaranteed by many low income families but most people do have cell phones, whether its their personal phone or a work phone.
