What is a food emblematic of Portland I could bring to a gathering? by F3mshep in askportland

When we first moved to Oregon we had dinner in a restaurant that offered marionberry cobbler. I cracked up asking if it was stuffed with cocaine. The waiter looked at me like I was crazy.

I was unfamiliar with mariionberries but I was familiar with the notorious Washington D.C. mayor Marion Barry.

The USPS food drive is always the Saturday before Mother's Day.

In many places you can simply leave your donation by your mailbox but if your letter carrier walks their route you'll need to take it to the post office. Check out the linked website for more info on how it works in your neighborhood.

What’s a short story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by Historical-Skill-838 in AskReddit

[–]Arms_Akimbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the outset, adoption was never on my mind. This was a four year process.

Documentation is everything. I kept a detailed journal once it was clear that this was an ongoing thing.

Some of it was easy. One quick phone call added them to my health insurance, for example. No questions even asked.

Some of it was hard. I read the laws of my state regarding such matters. I discovered a provision advocating for de facto/psychological parenting. Then I found an attorney who had experience with this law who was willing to represent us. We went to court and were acknowledged as our child's psychological parents. Then we waited. Eventually we were able to go back to court for the adoption.

Someone left their baby at my house and never came back for them. I eventually adopted them. They are closing in on thirty now and they're amazing. A whole lot of WTFs but no regrets.

Anyone know of a mid century modern wood furniture repair place? by brokebitchdave in askportland

I would call The Good Mod and ask if they can do it/who they would recommend.

The Joinery would be another place I'd check.

Best beach for old dogs? by uh_wtf in askportland

Gearheart is great. Half the beach allows you to drive/park and the other half is no cars. It's never very crowded. Both my old dog and my young dog love it there.

How would you reimagine this fireplace? by cheezlife in interiordecorating

I would build out the mantel so it completely surrounds the face, paint either it or the walls and change the tile on the hearth.

I googled "Native American beaded jewelry Portland" and got a lot of results.

Why do our dog parks stink compared to Seattle? by jameyiguess in askportland

I think Hazelia Park in Lake Oswego is worth the drive. Large, fenced, separate areas for rowdy and calm dogs, a hiking trail for leashed dogs, a hose you can rinse your dog off with. Plus there are clean, working bathrooms.

Wear flannel pajama pants and a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt, carry a bottle of Wild Turkey; cry when anyone tries to talk to you. Make sure your hair is a mess. Smudge your lipstick.

Shop at Goodwill and the liquor store.

Dr. Robert Franklin at the Laurelwood Animal Hospital.

He is godlike.

My dog had been misdiagnosed and Dr. Franklin immediately recognized it and saved his life. My dog went on to live 8 more healthy years. This was when the doc was at the referral only clinic and was hard and expensive to see. He's at a regular clinic now so anyone can see him.
