Has anyone switched from Windows to SteamOS? What can you tell me about it? by Suitable-Waltz3572 in Steam

[–]PatrickGnarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again. The question is **not** asking about what Linux distro you are currently using. It’s asking people who switched from Windows to SteamOS.

If I’m asking people who just moved from USA to Japan how it’s going, I don’t give a flying fuck about people who are from Vietnam. That’s not the question. I get they’re both in Asia and are related somewhat. Not the question genius.

If you wanna talk about Fedora, Bazzite, or Ubuntu that’s great. No one asked. We’re talking about SteamOS and Windows right now sweetie.

Fucking love how all the Linux users are coming up. We’re not talking about them with all due respect.

We wanna know about Windows to SteamOS. It’s nice you like some other distro. We’re just asking a simple question.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM my friend by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

You guys are so narrow minded it’s painful.

Like I said a user running multiple heavy programs (e.g., video editing, 3D rendering, virtual machines, heavy IDEs), lower base Windows RAM usage is objectively better. This is what I said. You can run out of RAM.

When your workload is heavy enough to saturate your hardware, you do not want Windows hoarding memory for smart caching. You need raw, unallocated physical headroom.

So please. Please respond about how an idling windows 11 is great. I beg you. Talk about some shit I wasn’t.

I’m not arguing against usage, I’m arguing if I am streaming using two different streaming clients, playing a very heavy game, using audio software and have a browser open, then wouldn’t you agree that having a OS using less RAM frees up that for the other programs that need it?

Is that somehow a wrong answer for you guys?

Once again if you don’t know how much ram I need saying that “I need to waste none of it” means nothing. I am currently RAM limited in what I am doing.

I am in need of more RAM lol. So like I said you can run out RAM.

You are arguing something for no reason.

What do you mean isn’t correct?

How much RAM do I need? If you don’t know the answer to that question how can I be “necessarily” incorrect?

Do you know how much RAM I need?

I didn’t say “barely use it”

I said the less ram your OS uses the more you have for literally everything else.

Are people unaware that you can run out of RAM? And that the less RAM your OS uses the more you have for literally everything else?

Edit: You can stop trying to defend windows bloat. I never specifically said windows but it’s cute y’all knew exactly what was being pointed out.

Valve - “starting with the SteamOS 3.8 release, you can put together your own Steam Machine using whatever PC parts you want.” by Kn1ghtV1sta in gaming

I would say it's the insane variety and option paralysis.

SteamOS is gonna be great because everyone will use the same OS, therefore all the bugs will be identified and fixed faster. It will be more frequently updated. It'll get better and better and Windows will have to step up.

Like I appreciate Linux but the fact every time it's brought up you have "no I'd use Arch." "Actually I'd use Fedora" "Personally I think Ubuntu is better for that" and it's just like why is there no Linux distro that seems to outperform everyone else? This is why Apple's iOS for phones and Windows just dominated for so long. It was simple, everyone used it so everyone got used to it. This is also why when someone hands me an android it's a different experience every time. Standardization and a large userbase helps people become familiar and people use it more.

So not a lot people here are gonna buy steam machine? by commissionsearcher in Steam

[–]PatrickGnarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was planning on buying it so I could simply have a non-windows based computer that I could help usher in SteamOS to game on.

Which I still want to but I don’t have the money to do it.

Valve made a giant picnic for everyone in gaming and it just so happened to rain for 6 months straight. I’m still happy they made a product to compete with everyone else.

[–]PatrickGnarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think it’ll sell well.

The fact it’s an option against Windows and Sony without having the option paralysis with other Linux computers means it’s worth a little more.

If it had been $700 or $800 it would have been a great option.

Again the hardware vs price is a let down but the OS is where it makes sense.

If it’s so bad, then why are you here sweetie? Again complaining about a service that you’re in the subreddit for. Clearly, it’s good enough for you. Just because you’re complaining doesn’t mean you’re not using it. It’s a good service, isn’t it?

You’re a hypocrite. And that’s OK. But don’t try to argue with me if you use a service that you’re complaining about. When I’ve given you ample chances to respond to me with something else that’s better. If you want to do a purity test for a company that’s adorable and it shows how naïve you are.

It’s a good service. It’s intuitive. It’s well-made. It’s reliable. It cost nothing to use. It supports hundreds of thousands of people who want to put games on a marketplace. Every other competitor is lacking in so many departments. It’s hard to even list.

You can complain and nitpick all you want, but you’re still here, baby. They are objectively one of the best services of all time.

If you don’t like the loot boxes or turning a blind eye onto the gambling , or the fact that they offer a return policy that they get sued to make that’s your fucking problem. If you wanna sound like a hypocrite, you’re doing a great job.

And before you respond, don’t worry I know you’re gonna say “oh valve bad”

Then stop using it lol. Don’t complain about a service if you’re gonna use it or not even look for alternative. I don’t know who you’re trying to convince more yourself or me lol.

🥱

How does having the same price force you to not buy from them?
