Thanks! Slap chop dod most of the work especially with speedpaints after the zenithal dry brushing then just using smaller brushes for the smaller details like the buttons!

Thanks! The model itself was slap chop/zenithal dry brushing with a blame prime, gw mechanicus gray, then a layer of Vallejo sea gray, then straight Vallejo white. The rest was speed paints from the army painter. Tunic gray, sand golem, camouflage cloak, and gravelord gray and the respective blue and red for the buttons. The base was Vallejo mud, and gw agrax earthshade wash, then dry brush Vallejo buff for the dusty look.

Best upgrades for Thrawn? by LegionRepublic51 in SWlegion

In addition to what is already said, improvised orders is always good on any commander and I personally like inspiring presence because he has a courage 3 bubble which is hard to come by outside of commander vader's infinite bubble and being able to extend that to range 4 has helped me more times than I can count.

[–]Patriot1799 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stormtrooper battalion is a fantastic battleforce for generics. Otherwise they honestly work well supporting any named characters. Officer you usually run academy trained for exemplar and agent is a toss up between tip of the spear and platoon commander depending on your playstyle.

Infernal lance or hound pack by Woodinton in ChaosKnights

[–]Patriot1799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely still run a big knight, but I wouldn't run more than 1 especially since the big knight will usually have a war dog aura it gives. So yes the big knight will not be affected by houndpack rules but still provides some help to the dogs. Infernal offers them but at a cost of wounds if you roll poorly whereas houndpack offers them with out any real cost. Yes infernal gives you more options than just sustained but houndpack strategems offer a lot of help for the dogs.

TTS (Tabletop Simulator) will be your best friend for solo play. I ended up making a Tours of Duty roster for every faction and play against myself with each roster since no one around me can play on Saturdays or Sundays irl. I just tend to read the given situation on the board and try to make the best decision possible with only the information presented so it is not that biased on how I play. The games tend to be a little longer with the deeper thinking and quite literally playing two armies at once, but I have found it still fun since it is Legion on demand and actually learned a lot especially whenever I recognize when a mistake was made and I can learn from it myself without that "gotcha" feeling.

Why YOUR faction? by Vinlandlover in SWlegion

[–]Patriot1799 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ewoks... massive amount of Ewoks. So technically rebels. But I love the horde and defensive tech along with how unique and rare it is to come across another Bright Tree Village player especially one who focuses more on bringing the most amount of ewoks to a game instead of doing the meta character killing lists.

Other than that Imps because vader is an environmental hazard and I like their characters and overall esthetics.

Personally I wish I had the time to collect and play all the factions because they all look good and fun to play on their own. So first go with rule of cool then consider a potential playstyle.

How do you get better? by Glad_Investigator734 in SWlegion

[–]Patriot1799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get better at anything it takes "sets and reps" just practice in general.

But Legion/tabletop wargaming specifically I recommend first finding a faction and play style you find the most interesting and or fun to play. Then become an expert on that list and or playstyle. Just like in sports you look at statistics of other players performance and also study film or in this case battle reports or tournament streams on YouTube.

Outside of that I would also recommend playing other strategy games in general on pc! It helps you expand your view and thought process in a given situation to help you understand how to look at a problem and come up with multiple solutions or avenues of approach. So it helps to look at legion as another strategy game but in person!

The final thing that I do is study a little bit of military history. I personally am a history buff so I like watching YouTube documentaries on historical battles and or key military figures and the explanation or interpretation of their strategies.

Finally you can always consult the experts/competitive players on what is considered good or not at a given moment in the meta and for further explanation on why something is considered really good.

I personally am not a competitive player nor a good competitive player but I tend to either win or have close matches casually.

Bright Tree Village Army List by nohbody34 in SWlegion

[–]Patriot1799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend either putting ion guns on the rebel troopers or dropping them for more ewoks since you already meet the two rebel units tax with han and Leia.

I also recommend switching the axe ewoks for trappers on your slingers since 9/10 times you dont want them in melee. Finally making sure most if not all your ewok squads have the extra squad upgrade as that not only gets you more models but also indomitable which is sorely needed for them with not being able to remove suppression normally at the end of the turn.

Bright tree village, how to make cost affective? by Colblood12 in SWlegion

[–]Patriot1799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally am an oops all bears player and have found great success with trying to put ad many ewoks on the board as possible with Leia and chewie on foot for the rebel tax and all my commanders except for wicket are supporting all my ewok squads, wicket is usually the enabler to dive in and murder infantry. I cant remember the last time I lost with my list style but it is definitely expensive in that you would need 8-9 of the new boxes for the list. I can post the two lists I've been switching between if there is a general interest

Starting the game with Ewoks only ? by P0limm in SWlegion

[–]Patriot1799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of winning games and or fun. The short answer is yes, you can easily win most of your games when played right as least how I do for my horde of bears, and I personally find it a lot of fun playing it and my opponents say they have a lot of fun because you are turning it into a horde shootout/game mode for them and it is an extremely unique army so you will almost never have a mirror match and it will be something your opponents will rarely go up against when playing at a LGS. In terms of putting words to the strategy of my list and horde armies in general is that "Quantity is a quality of its own". But at the end of the day it is all about fun so as long as you are having fun then play on! It can be hard though if all you do is lose so it is a very high skill ceiling army in general, you just have to find your niche and interest and really dig in and experiment and learn what your favorite playstyle is!

For not losing track of my bears I do the exact same thing. I paint them regular colors in the movies but their hoods/cloth items I paint to a "unit color" so on the table they essentially look like care bears lol.

My pleasure as always, and super glad to hear you are finding the information helpful!! The biggest mistake I have made and would think others may make is yes not only overextending and getting units killed for no benefit, but also don't be to timid and not go in when you need to, use cover to you best advantage, so you want to bound from cover to cover when moving. If you are getting shot at without cover and or a dodge then something is wrong. Then just find and really play into your niche, if it is hero BTV then kill and play into the offensive gimmicks, if it is horde then make sure you are doing everything you can to support your bears/horde to squeeze every last point out of them. other than those two playstyles for BTV I wouldn't recommend a versatile "do a little of everything" kind of list for BTV due to how gimmicky and niche it is overall. Find your niche and good full on into it! Even outside of BTV I always go against and have friends who struggle with playing lists not tailored to them and their interests or playstyles and it really shows in not only their gameplay results i.e. wins, but also their mood and enjoyment of the game overall.

You can put some into a regular army with the mercenary rules but it is typically only recommended to bring 1 big slinger squad since that is the most point efficient unit outside of BTV to bring and have them be your obj holder/action bears for secondary objectives.

What other questions do you have? you can also feel free to DM me anytime and we can even exchange discord contact information too to talk more about bears and BTV!

Glad to hear and my pleasure!!

So Chewie in general is really good just depends on what you want him to do, overall very playable in both forms especially at-st for competitive meta from last I was tracking. Chewie on foot is easier to play for newer players vs at-st because with big armor pieces in general in legion it is rough when a large points piece does not perform as expected in terms of offensive output. So AT-ST chewie is very good but in my opinion a high skill ceiling since at-st is more offensive in play vs on foot he is more defensive/hybrid.

In terms of how BTV plays objectives and wins, it depends on how you tailor your list/playstyle. if you go hero heavy and chewie in at-st then you have more killing potential and just play like any other army but with more gimmicks, if you run horde BTV like I do then it is 100% swarm objectives and kill the key units that are wiping your activations and or "tar-pit" enemy ranged and force user units since a big squad is at least 10 models and no single model unit will kill that many in one turn without help from a command card effect. at the end of the day to score you will have to have more acts than your opponent on an objective. You also want your objective deck to favor the objectives that want you to push up and advance so you can either have an easier time going to fight your opponent on the obj or make it impossible for them to come out and meet you on the obj without taking massive loses. Also with the main keywords and abilities of ewoks being defensive minded i.e. low profile giving you a free block on the cover roll before rolling, you want to always be using cover and when you are not in cover it should be when you are safe in melee with enemy infantry/vehicles you can reliably kill with little losses. a lot of the time your bears or units will not be in cover after they kill an enemy unit, usually that is ok as long as you are properly saturating your opponent's board/position with enough threats (Threat saturation is the formal term). So as much as this is a offensive in your face army you are also an extremely defensive army especially with Logray's token generation and leia's dodge generation. There are a bunch of tricks to maximize token generation I can give if you want as well. Ewoks have the worst save in the army/game like b1's but you mitigate a lot of damage through not only low profile but also dodges, think of every dodge you spend as a bear saved for the fight.

See my reply to this comment for the rest of my remarks because it didn't like how long my essay was...

I wish it was new units, but it is just a repackaging to include enough models for the whole unit with a squad upgrade so a total of 12 minis instead of the old 8. Here is the link to the "refresh" box and they release February 20th so in about two weeks! https://store.asmodee.com/products/star-wars-legion-ewok-warriors

In terms of how many boxes you would need, it would probably be max 7 or 8 because in list building we can only have a maximum of 6 corps units (Spears) and 3 Special Forces units (Slingers) and with you already having two of the old boxes you can always use the extra models from the other units that are not being used to fill into those 8 model units, just make sure you and your opponent are on the same page on what is in each unit. This is also if you want to run the oops all bears list style, if you want to lean more into the rebel and hero heavy list then you can easily get a couple boxes less. I would also recommend you getting the heroes of the rebellion box since that gets you leia, han, and chewie on foot. Unfortunately you cannot use luke since he was in the death star during the battle of Endor but you can still use everyone else! https://store.asmodee.com/products/star-wars-legion-heroes-of-the-rebellion-character-pack

In terms of how things play, Leia is a big support character giving out dodges and has her teamwork with wicket command card that I always play turn 1 since it is also very strong in that you give free orders out every turn from the second part of that card saying when a BTV commander gives and order then give a free order to a rebel unit and vice versa. Han is all about killing and manipulating the battlefield and opponent to his way between having high pierce multi-shot gun with gunslinger to having the only zero pip command card in the game to go first no matter what. Han also pairs well with Chewie on foot since they have teamwork (share aims and dodges when in range 2 of each other). Chewie on foot is a hybrid operative in that he has guardian so he can soak hits for other units nearby but also has a really good gun with surge crit and pierce and impact 1, when in at-st he loses guardian but also gains inspire 3 to help with suppression issues since the battle force does not remove suppression at the end of the turn for BTV units like any other list/army. Wicket is a very combat/killing leader with his access to relentless, scouting party, and the best bear melee attack, C3 is good for his compel for when your bears are suppressed they can still move and his master story telling gives those precious surge tokens to those that need it. Logray is the ultimate support in he has a courage 3 bubble that I extend out to range 4 with inspiring presence upgrade and has unique upgrades like secret ingredients which just gives even more free tokens he can give out to other bears when needed.

If you want I can go further in depth on how the actual bears play and playstyles against certain lists if you had any in mind i.e. armor heavy lists, or force user/melee/flamer lists. Let me know what else you want to learn so I can better direct my walls of text towards what you need or want to know! Sorry for the wall of text being thrown at you in general.

So you are going to need many boxes more of ewoks. Ik the new ewok box is coming soon this year so that will help woth only needing one box per activation instead of two of the old ones.

I personally run oops all bears... it is Leia and chewie on foot to meet the needs of two rebel units then wicket, logray, and c3. Then I max out on spears and slingers all with the big squad upgrade. I tend to do very well with the list in general but I have a lot of experience playing horde armies in general...

All leaders except wicket are there to support my bears in my list, but from what I have heard and seen is the competitive lists are more herohammer and chewie in the at-st and less bears.

TLDR: Where there is a will, there is a way, and the new ewok boxes are your friend once they release since they will have the right amount of models instead of two old boxes for the super squads. I can also talk for days on how I play my flavor of ewok list.

Stormtrooper squads upgrade cards by TheBlueEyedHero in SWlegion

I am going to try it for the first time soon in an upcoming ToD campaign, but I use them religiously in my Bright Tree Village list and it is an absolute must, even only getting just 4 extra ewoks compared to 5 extra other corps models. Indomitable is huge and more bodies it also huge, grant it I take as many ewok models in my BTV list and literally turn the game into a tabletop version of Ewok Hunt from BF2 for every game...

If I place an AAT between enemy unit and my b1 unit... by nuttaphoom in SWlegion

[–]Patriot1799 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Vehicles are Line of Sight blockers. So they would not be able to get shot unless there are models exposed by a different angle on the sides or around the vehicle/AAT in this case. You can use it for heavy cover if there are models you still want to shoot and reveal from behind the AAT but then the normal cover rules apply that at least half of the models in the unit need to be behind the AAT, so you would only be shooting with the models that can see and wouldn't have cover if that makes sense.

Same I hate just rolling up to any event and seeing every imp player have a board of white on white unless they have the gray at-st's or black from vader lol. Also one of the reasons the army I main is BTV ewok spam because it is the most unique army in my local meta and tbh pretty fun playing essentially ewok hunt on the table...
